Global Crossing  finishes phase  project in Chile   
  
  
"....Santiago, Chile 13 March 2001. Global Crossing (NYSE:GX) company that offers integrated solutions of telecommunications through the global net of optic fiber with base more extensive IP of the world -, the construction begins of the one spread terrestrial between Santiago and Valparaiso (100 miles north Santiago), last tract to complete the system corresponding to Chile and that it will allow the connection with the world net of the company that connects 250 cities, located in 27 countries of the five continents.   
  
This last stage has an extension of 235 kilometers and them wait to be concluded to more to take at the end of March 2001, to enter in operations during the first trimester of the year. The tract leaves in the Telehouse that Global Crossing has in "Huechuraba"  (15 Miles to West Santiago) to the beach "Las Torpederas" (Valparaiso), going by the Cable Station of "Playa Ancha" (Valparaiso).   
  
In "Las Torpederas" the optic fiber is connected with the submarine cable of the Ocean Pacific that Chile unites with Peru, Colombia and Panama and that it is part of the ring South American Crossing (SAC). This system connects the main countries of the region (Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, besides those already mentioned) and it is the connection point with the world net of Global Crossing.   
  
The one spread total that built the company in this area of the country  calls himself "Crossing Trasandino" and has an extension of 2.580 kilometers. The Toninas begins in the beach (Argentina), then it crosses the Mountain range of The Andes until Valparaiso.   
  
At investment level, Global Crossing dedicated for Chile US$76 millions for the construction of the one spread terrestrial and of the Station of Cable, besides the equipment of this and of the Telehouse with equipments of top generation.   
  
Visit of government's authorities The announcement on the beginning of the last phase of the project for Chile was given to know for the general manager of Global Crossing Chile, William Neilson, during the visit that they carried out to the Station of Cable the Job minister , Ricardo Solari, the executive vice-president of the Committee of Foreign Investments, Karen Poniachick and the manager of the Division Investments and Development of Corfo, Carlos Alvarez. The governor of Valparaíso, Luis also attended Vicente Garcia, and the Seremi of Transport, Carlos Ibarra.   
  
In the opportunity, Neilson highlighted that the arrival of the world net of
Global Crossing they will give Chile a band width that increases in at least TEN TIMES THE CONNECTION SPEED TO INTERNET!.   
  
This will allow the user to reduce their time of wait and to consent to a wide range of new services like: 
TELEWORKING, EDUCATION and MEDICAL DIAGNOSES AT DISTANCE!.   
  
These last ones, very profitable business for the companies; for example, in United States the education at distance is a market valued in US$4 billions...."   (end article)
