what lies beneath: this is a little disquieting.  and that's a pretty big understatement, really.  after viewing the infamous episode "genesis of evil," there is no possible way things can be any different from what is about to be discussed here.  der kaiser, the horrid tyrant that plagued dejitarusei and the chosen child truly is an entirely different person.  when ken plunged his hand into the dark waters of that ocean -- same  as the one yamato views taichi in, '01; caused by the word's flux  / when hikari was transported there during '02 -- there could be heard a multitude of voices, all of which resembling ken's.  as his dejivice changed from the regular norm into a black d-3, the foreshadowing decibles of demented kaiser was the most dominant of them all, laughing - and ken immediately was sucked into that void, as kaiser took the driving wheel, and proclaimed of how he would end up ruling that world.  this provides fully the needed proof that kaiser was not ken (which explains ken's "amnesia"), and was merely lying in wait for ken to show up at that lake; as he was embodied symbolically in the dark dejivice mutation.  ken mutated then, too, and was no more in control.

the time line is a little mixed, considering whenever the
dark seeds were implanted in ken's neck as he pushed aside akiyama ryo, but the seeds more than likely infused ken's pride/jealousy to turn into an almost rage and want for osamu to "disappear" forever.  oikawa saw promise in ken because of his inane jealously, and that's why he went through the total trouble of having osamu be killed so ken's would feel that immense guilt, and wish to take on the job of being osamu -- thus giving the dark dejitarusei ocean and it's lost souls a chance to make ken dark.  there had been failed attempts before, when yamato was caught in the darkness, and when sora was, all during the first season.  perhaps the lake is some sort of purgatory.

here's the thing.  oikawa said in that e-mail beckoning ken to come to the dejital world that while osamu's soul was free, ken's soul was encaged and entrapped.  really, that random
kaiser preying upon ken at the lake could have, and probably was the body-less soul of osamu -- out for some latent revenge, as it probably knew of ken taking on his life (as his parents forced him to, and the seeds helped out as well - refer to battle for both worlds episodes) and such.  was that dejivice osamu's?  wormmon said it wasn't,
while in oikawa's e-mail it said it was, "take osamu's dejivice," and all.  but nevertheless, ken believed he had to take upon osamu's destiny, or fate of sorts, and probably willingly accepted being possessed by osamu's lasting spirit.  coupled by his parent's pressure (shimatta, i do not like that family) and the fact he thought he ended up killing osamu indirectly, ken could do nothing but continue on this storyline, and not live his own.  ken was a pawn, really, for osamu's desicions.  what's odd, is that while osamu was younger, he was quite kind and such to ken, but then as he got older .. what happened?  he became a total bastard, with his paranoia about his drawer and room, and so on.  was it his parents, oikawa, or what that made osamu change so much?

well, regardless, osamu did come back, in a form ken would have never recognized.  perhaps oikawa saw ken's body more fit physically, and steeled mentally, for the job of taking over dejitarusei -- while osamu's brilliance was what was needed to lay the path to being the perfect subjugator.  refer to aristotle's six characteristics of tradegy's hero, which will be or is up on this site somewhere.

another interesting thought concedes.  akiyama ryo, or the silent traveling partner of ken seen only once or twice in the series, was the original victim of those
dark seeds.  young-ken can be viewed shoving ryo aside, and telling him to "get down!" as they flew through the air; and ken got into the cross-fire, thusly implanting those evil items.  so what does this mean?  why did oikawa want ryo, if he already had ken and osamu's destiny lined up later?  was oikawa improvising for a fatal mistake?  ken and wormmon went traveling together sometime around osamu's death, before or after.  but when oikawa invited ken to enter dark dejitarusei, and
ken got possessed by that horrible soul - and it was supposedly the first time he had ever seen such a realm.   ken definitely became the demented other in that episode, and couldn't have possibly traveled with wormmon afterward and stayed the same kindhearted kid wormmon was proclaiming he was - unless he was like that odd kid who muttered "insects" while smiling at his parents in that one episode  so did he travel beforehand, against osamu's wishes, and get smacked around some more?  or was he
kaiser while traveling, and just pretended he was ken?  this is some depth, and that's taking it lightly.

so who's ryo -- was he just a middle-man for ken to get implanted (just a wasteful way of getting ken seeded, when he could have just been aimed at directly), or was he originally supposed to be hit, and that whole osamu thing a fiasco (which would prove ken traveled before osamu's death, since oikawa would've had to improvise and kill osamu to get at ken and the whole previous scenario if ken got "accidentally" impanted)?  does this make any sense, at all?  really, ryo can be any number of things.  he could be one of those
previous dejidestined children, since he looks somewhat old enough - around osamu's final age, fourteenish, and seems to know his way around the dejital world as he travels with ken.  there is speculation he did have a dejimon, veemon to be exact.  another thought is that he's a younger "clone" of Gennai, as there are middle-aged ones all over the world, and then one old one residing in dejitarusei.  but the oddest, yet most convincing one is as follows.

ryo was/is daisuke.  no, not the exact same child, but quite close.  another consciousness perhaps, a displacement of body and mind in some form or another.  a previous life would not be a good analysis, since ken was around four to six when he traveled, and is only a year older than daisuke.  but something like that, like that kid in the coma from the weird sci-fi series, who went on a quest through his dreams.  in the wonderswan dejimon adventure games, ryo and ken traveled about, while ken had a wormmon and ryo .. a veemon.  yep, how uncanny, eh?  this is somewhat a reminder of taichi traveling back in his past during the piximon episode, and giving his younger self an encouraging speech about never giving up (with that bike, and all).  with that, maybe oikawa wanted to seed ryo because he was/would be daisuke, the leader of the future chosen children!  and it would put a bunch of problems out of the way, such as preventing foiled plans for the future.  and since ken shoved ryo aside, oikawa wanted revenge .. or just did the next best thing.  or maybe he was planning to seed both, and gave up on ryo to persue ken's future fully?

so maybe that veemon is
the veemon, if you will, and possibly remembers ken from latent years?  or maybe ken's amensia is due to this trans-regression of the past, involving some sort of reincarnated conciousness of daisuke's that interferes with the memories?  does daisuke know of this other life, and remember ken?  is that why wormmon wanted daisuke to help ken become the pilot, and defeat kaiser, because wormmon knew of his potential from experiences with ryo?  was ryo's crest miracles, and daisuke finally went back to claim it again?  will the questions ever stop?  stay tuned for more speculation!
