The alarm went off. I turned it off. Not a good start to a long day.

I rolled out of bed a little late and rushed to get the 10 oclock bus to Madryn, getting into town at 11 (after sleeping all the way) and then having to wait around for an internal town bus to get me to the university for the 2nd International Conference on the Welsh in Patagonia.

Events were already underway, with a panel in process, so I shuffled quietly in at the back and listened semi-attentively.

Lunchtime came around quickly, and I went into the centre of the city for lunch along with the key speakers from the conference, including David Williams, a doctor come interested local historian come Welsh learner from Trelew, and Ceris Gruffudd, who works for the National Library of Wales and is secretary of Cymdeithas Cymru-Ariannin.

Unfortunately, lunch was kind of ruined because of technical hitches with Brunos presentation in the afternoon, which meant that both he and Susan, who was also presenting, were understandably rather worried.

I had some nice salad for starters and then some noquis. They were nice.

We got back in time for the start of Brunos presentation, which went through hitch-free and then those of Geraldine and Walter from Cardiff University about a teacher in the area and inter-marriages respectively.

The event went on a little later than I had expected, so after missing a bus on the way out at 8:30 (I could see it turning round and leaving. sniff!) I made the bracing promenade walk back into Madryn, just in time to catch the 9:30 to Trelew (and, again, sleep all the way).

Decided to check my mail on the way home, and then hit the sack nice and early to have a good nights sleep before the second day of the conference.
