Diary Week Four
Day 22
|
Thursday, 12th August, 2004I decided to take a trip down to Gaiman, having not been there for a few days, so went along and caught an early afternoon bus out to the village, where I walked around for half an hour, bought some stationery and local newspapers and generally pottered aimlessly around. I tried to find some way of validating the trip, so went to the Welsh Museum again where I ran into two girls from North Wales who I had seen the week before in Trelew. Funny, eh? My reason for being there was to look through old copies of Y Drafod, so I got all the copies from 1965 to the present and went through them to check the people who were advertising in them, what sort of issues they were covering, general sort of analysis. I came to the conclusion that I really should do it in more depth, but it was fascinating to see the same names cropping up in either the editorial or the advertisements, familiar shops from Trelew appearing everywhere - Rogers Shop, Casa Lloyd and even the camping shop from across the road from Howys! Leaving the museum just after six (closing time), there was a bus coming up the road, so I hopped on that and back to Trelew. I went home and read the paper again and had dinner and then thought about going to the cinema, in the absence of anything else to do. I had already missed the earlier film, an Argentinian road-trip movie, but I guessed that as it contained young people it might stay around even after my trip to Esquel. So that left the slightly more art-house Argentinian offering, Luna de Avanelladza, which I went along to see at 9:30. It seemed to go on for ages, but that might just have been me struggling with the Spanish for two and a half hours. Seriously, it was an enjoyable film about a sports club which eventually dies due to lack of interest from many of the people around it. Barry fans should watch it. Yep, that depressing. Good film, though.
