August Update Coming up this month... It's hard enough getting everybody together once a month but we're going to go for twice this month! As always, meet at the Guildford Hotel at 7:30pm. Monday August 20: The inaugural Murray Thornhill Memorial Lecture will be given by none other than Murray Thornhill himself! He will tell us of his delightful experiences as a lawyer in a country town including his frequent diet of pork 'n' beans, and his first big case; defending a local goat accused of assault and buttery... ahem...Since this will take no more than 10 minutes, we will also be discussing.... John Howard Yoder's article, "The Constantinian Sources of Western Social Ethics" from The Priestly Kingdom: Social Ethics as Gospel. (University of Notre Dame Press, 1984)
Thursday August 23 : On the same week, Dr Gordon Preece from Ridley College will meet with us to talk about issues arising from David Lyon's new book, Jesus in Disneyland on religion in the postmodern world. We will focus on a related article, "Encountering Jesus in Disneyland."
(For those who know Ian Barns: Ian has just returned from Canada having been invited by David Lyon to jointly teach a course with him at Regent College). Also, you may want to check out my slowly evolving Web Page in the future as I bring it up to speed.
