Training
January - February 2002
This is when we planned to start our training - yeah right !!

March - May 2002
Training started. The route up and down White Nancy (WN) became a well trodden path for us all. John worked out that 13 times up and down would be the equivalent to ascending and descending Ben Nevis once. That's not bad we thought, until we realised how quick we would have to do it. The first time we tried doing WN twice we were exhausted, gasping for breath at the second peaking, lungs burning, 13 was going to be impossible.

As the weeks ticked by, we were all working hard on building up our stamina, getting the legs used to all the punishment they were going to receive and answering questions from people who thought we were mad walking up and down the same hill day after day. By the time we entered June we were all beginning to feel that we couldn't get any fitter. John and Helen had done WN 13 times and chucked in a bit of cycling for good measure, Helen and Kathryn were putting themselves through their paces during the day and I was doing WN 4 times in an hour, 2 or 3 times a week after I got home from work.
Our dog, by this point was getting to hate the site of his lead. The look on his face when I came home from work after he had been out with the girls during the day was one of 'not now, can't I just rest for 5 minutes'. He became the fittest dog in Bollington and he wasn't even coming with us. The thought of a big sweaty Labrador in the car with us was not very appealing - he would be staying at home having a well earned rest.

June 2002 (4 weeks to go)
We had reached the peak of physical fitness, or so we thought. We had trained and trained and just wanted the weekend to arrive as soon as possible. We had all been seeking sponsorship from various people and places and had finally hit the 1,000 mark. Now it was just a case of maintaining the fitness ready for the final push.
