Mike, Mel, Rich, Tracy, Jay

Big Wow started out of my friendship with Tracy Colby. She had previously played in DickTit and Thee Maryjanes and when the latter band broke up, she took some time off. I thought she had some amazing songs, so we decided to put something together.  She worked with drummer Alan Baxendale, who was also in Thee Maryjanes, so he joined up. He was also playing in a band called Outsideinside with Melanie Bruck (who ALSO had been in TheeMJ's), so she came in as the bassist (yes, this was our first band together - this is what started it all!).  We played a couple of shows as a four piece with Tracy singing but she didn't like being the lead singer as well as guitarist, so she brought in the MJ's old singer, Mike Czekaj (ex-Fuzztones and future-Alter Egos - yes this is all very incestuous!). We did a number of shows until Alan left to devote his time to his other projects and we brought in another co-worker of Tracy's, Jay Nowac. We played out for at least a year, maybe longer, recorded some 4 track demos and that was about it. Hopefully someday Tracy will come back out of retirement cuz she has some amazing songs, including the often covered (by such bands as the Alter Egos, the Excessories, the Cheeks, among others) "Heart Upon My Sleeve"! Someday it will be the hit that it deserves to be!
