Pros:
Thousands of songs in your pocket all began with Apple's
iPod. The iPod's design is what everyone going "ooh" and
"aah". Inspiring countless imitations, the white and chrome
little device is the market leader in personal audio players.
Pack it with iTunes, its ridiculously easy to use software, and
the iTunes Store (which sadly requires a US billing address),
and its virtually unbeatable.
Cons:
It costs a bundle. The battery of the iPod is also said to have a
disappointing life, and it costs another tidy little bundle to
replace it. It also plays only MP3 and AAC files.
Everyone else
Pros:
There are countless usurpers to the iPod throne, such as the
iRiver iHP-120 (which lets you record from other devices)
and the Creative Zen NX (far cheaper than the iPod with
more memory) and a legion of imitations coming up. On the
odd chance that yuor music collection is encoded in WMA,
you'll definitely want to pass on an iPod.
Cons:
How hard is it to make a device as small and as sexy as the
iPod? Pretty damn hard, it would seem. The iPod wannabes
are mostly clunky devices that are larger than the iPod, with
none of the Ipod's sex appeal, and they all do basically the
same thing: put thousands of songs in your pocket.
THE
WINNER: IPOD
