GAMEPLAY (9.0)
Yep, Capcom decided to remake the game that started the Resident Evil (RE) series on the Game Cube. Players who played the PSX version would find things somewhat familiar and also things completely new. How does this survival horror game turn out?
In short, RE is about an elite police investigation team named STARS out to investigate what happened to a subunit of their team who were reported missing while on a mission. Finding their crashed helicopter in the middle of a dark forest, the suddenly came across a couple of zombie like dogs. The STARS team were chased by them until they found "safety" in a huge mansion. From here, you play either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine in an effort to figure out what the heck is going on and at the same time survive and escape to safety.

For the most part, RE's gameplay is very similar to the previous installments; Run and kill zombies or other mutated monsters and solve some puzzles which require your to run around the mansion a lot. Same o same o. But, Capcom did some changes which would completely throw off RE veterans. 1) You can use "defense" weapons in which if you get in the grasp of a zombie or a monster, you can stun them for a moment and escape with out harm. 2)Zombies can be revived even if you killed them a second time. When they do, they're quicker and this time they'll hit you. To prevent this from happening, you'll have to either burn their bodies or decapitate their heads. 3) Never before seen areas of the mansion are now accessible. A major part of any survival horror game's gameplay is its ability to scare. The new changes and together with its graphics, which I'll talk about later, RE really, really, really accomplishes this! The only complaint I have with RE's gameplay is that the majority of the time is spent running back and forth around the mansion to solve some puzzles. It gets tedious after awhile...

GRAPHICS (10.0)                                                                           The first thing that I noticed about RE is its incredibly superb, realistic graphics. My jaw just dropped when I first entered the mansion. Very nice lighting effects. The zombies and monsters are highly detailed. The same could be said about the characters you play. Look at the screen shots and you'll see what I mean. Just amazing...

SOUND/MUSIC (9.0)                                                                     Not only did the graphics have been redone, but the sound and music has been enhanced as well. You could hear the echoes of your footsteps as you walk through the dining room, the thunder from outside, the chirping of the crickets, etc. Its good to hear that the voice acting has been approved too. The music RE offers fits well to the atmosphere of the game. I always loved it when something happens unexpectedly and the game puts on some tense music.

CONTROL (9.0)                                                                                 User friendly, responsive control. Any action can be done with ease.

CONCLUSION (9.3)                                                                       The remake of RE for the Gamecube is simply marvelous. A must have for RE fans and gamers alike! It's by far the scariest game for the Gamecube.
