a. That the core identity of a person is his spiritual "I" as described in the "I" Empowerment Therapy Manual.

b. That the methodology to experience the "I" is through the IET processes of relaxation, discernment, samatha-vipassana meditation (mindfulness), catharsis, yoga (concentration) and zen (awareness) meditation.  The IET processes are incorporated from other existing techniques and are subject to more improvement.

c. That empirical qualitative and quantitative research and tests must be used to validate process and outcome effects of IET.

d. That IET, to be truly effective, must integrate thinking, feeling and doing (volition). Consequently, IET, as a living idea, must be applied to practical problems of the world.  A person practicing IET cannot be confined to the solitary bliss of meditation. Having resolved his pains, he must express and share himself with other people, interact with them and learn from their wisdom.
4. What is the vision of IEI?

The vision of IEI is to make people aware of their spiritual identity,  the "I".


5. What are the objectives of IEI?


These objectives are:
a. Exercise the copyright rights assigned to IEI by Gonzalo B. Misa, author of "I" Empowerment Therapy Manual and other works.

b. Conduct empirical quantitative and qualitative research studies, diagnostic testing, workshops, training and outreach programs.

c. Improve IET by assimilating and contributing to other humanistic and scientific therapies and disciplines such as psychology, psychiatry, medicine, anthropology, art and science.

d. Apply IET to the enhancement of the quality of life and the alleviation of addiction, neurosis and psychosis.

e. Modify IET to suit the needs of children, adolescents, adults and elders.         

f. Introduce IET to educational, social, cultural, political and religious systems as a tool for empowering the individual without being partial to any of these systems.

g. Establish "I" Empowerment Institutes in different parts of the world.
6. What are the strategies of IEI to achieve its objectives?

These strategies are:
a. Train and certify IET instructors.

b. Reorganize the board of trustees of IEI to include distinguished professionals from medicine, psychiatry, psychology, parapsychology, science and other disciplines.         

c. Organize "I" Empower Institutes as collegial bodies interdependent with each other in coordination with a Central IEI.

d. Maintain a website and publish an IET journal to make a scholarly data base of IET research papers, articles and letters.
7. What are the guidelines of IEI in propagating IET and assimilating other disciplines?

IET embraces subject matter that:
a. are geared towards personal growth, self-expression and autonomy - not necessarily in accordance with the theories of the author of IET if proven false;

b. are empirical and not based on beliefs;

c. are testable as valid and reliable outcome or process effects;

d. encompass man's body, mind and spirit;

e. are not partial to any religious, political, economic, government or military vested interests.
8. How can IEI ensure that instead of becoming a bureaucratic and dogmatic institution, it remains vibrant, progressive and democratic?
9. How can productivity, harmony, sustainability and progress be ensured among various "I" Empowerment Institutes?
10. What happens to IEIs that dissent from the principles of IEI or refuse  to contribute 5% of their revenues and fees?

Their IEI copyright permit to use  shall be revoked.


11. Is not the revocation of IEI copyright permit to use dogmatic?


It is not dogmatic because IEI does not impose anything based on belief.  The revocation of copyright license is merely a practical way of maintaining standards.


12. What is the financial nature of IEI?


IEI is a non-stock, non-profit corporation. Reasonable fees may be charged for psycho-spiritual workshops, training, testing, publication and similar activities. However, it should be remembered that at its core IEI is spiritually oriented. The Exevcutive Director is tasked to conduct  regular meditation sessions for graduates of IET basic and advanced workshops at free or minimal fees to guide them further in their spiritual quest.  IEI is not designed to provide material wealth to the Executive Director nor to the Trustees.
a. Publication of an official  IEI journal and website to be contributed to by all "I" Empowerment Institutes.

b. A research group that can assist other Institutes in the methodology experimental research, training, workshops, research funding and in integrating the research of all Institutes.

c. Annual conventions
a. A Council of Executive Directors comprising the executive directors of various IEIs, headed by an elected Overall Executive Director, shall oversee the general direction of "I" Empowerment Institutes.

b. The Overall Executive Director shall organize the IEI he heads as the Central IEI that will be responsible for:
d. Five percent (5%) of all revenues and fees of "I" Empowerment Institutes shall be allocated to the Central IEI to help it in research, training and the maintenance of an IEI journal / website.
c. The Overall Executive Director  shall be elected or re-elected by the Council of Executive Directors every year.
a. Each IEI board of trustees is free to elect its own executive Director and officers.         

b. The board of trustees shall determine the policies, direction, culture and activities of their IEI in coordination with the Central IEI.

c. The board of trustees may, by a 2/3 vote, replace the Execuritive Director of IEI anytime for immorality, illegal acts, incompetence, or for acting against the principles and guidelines  of IEI

d. The funds of IEI must be used solely for the operations of IEI and must be recorded and reported as audited financial reports in a transparent and computerized format to the board of trustees, members, donors and grantees on a monthly basis
