The TV series departs slightly from the OVA series story, while the characters kind of remain the same. Here, Ryoko isn't found in the Masaki shrine cave, but Washu is. And Ryoko is being pursued by Mihoshi, not Ayeka. And Kiyone's here! The TV series takes a more humorous look on the Tenchi universe. There are three distinct plot lines. The first involves the romantic triangle between Tenchi, Ayeka and Ryoko, as well as their struggle to cope with living on Earth. In the second, three episodes deal with the group's misadventures in space and time as each character gets to live in a universe of their own creation. The third part involves a conspiracy against the house of Jurai, and the true identities of Tenchi and his grandfather. The series is a bit drawn out, but then it is a TV series. Some of the epsiodes really stand out, such as episode six where we see Mihoshi and Kiyone's life together on Earth. For the most part, the TV series spends much time in character development so if you like Ryoko you'll love the series. Other than that, things really don't begin to kick off until episode 14. |
