| The plane ride seemed so long, but then I began to talk to some kids around me we became friends. We played card games and some others games that they had. We all thought that the plane ride seemed long too. Finally after about 2 hours, which seemed forever, the plane landed. I got off and I saw this tall guy in a green shirt. He was holding up a sign that read 'Camp Chatuga on it and I go over to say hi. He says his name is Steve and he is from Camp Chatuga. We all say our greeting and he leads us through a long corridor and at the end, there was a big yellow bus where there were about 15 other kids were waiting for us. It was late and so I couldnt see anything, but the bus ride was long and loud, but I couldnt remember anything because I fell asleep and when I woke us, we were on a gravel road, heading into camp. We all got off and met our counselors and to bed I went. I woke up at dawn the next morning and watched the sun come up over the trees. I sight which will stick with me forever. Now that would be a thing to remember, but actually, I woke up at dawn and walked outside. I checked around to see if anyone was around, but I didnt see anyone. So I went into this big hall where I saw kids playing. There was a pool table, couple Ping-Pong tables and there are many kids waiting to play. As I walk up, I call next at the pool table and sit to watch them play. "Hi, My name is Kay and this is my first year art camp, whats your name?" I ask, but the kid is not so responsive. So I just sit there waiting to get my chance at pool. The kid, who lost playing, screamed and stormed out of the room and then it was my turn. I lost, of course, since I didnt know how to play very well. As I sit there watching others pay, this weird noise came from outside that said, "First Call! This is your first call! Everyone up!" Wondering what it was, I just sat there watching the game. Later on, I found out that it was on of the ladys who run the camp. Breakfast is served and for breakfast there is eggs and bacon, one of my favorites. It was yummy and after if was over; I had to help clear the table. After breakfast, we had to go into our cabins to clean up. This was a new experience for me, because at home, mom usually made my bed. My counselor is very nice and helpful. The kids in my cabin are also nice but rude sometimes. Theyll make sick jokes at others and then laugh at them. After the cabin was clean, the same lady came on the loudspeaker and said, "Everyone line up off the dining hall porch for activity circuit." So my counselor took us to the dining hall and we lined up. Then, another lady called us up and we started the activity circuit. I was able to try many different activities, like Archery, Riflery, soccer, and crafts. Our time ran out after all that. After it was over, my legs were so tired out from walking up and down those hill, but it was a good thing it ended because it was time for lunch. Lunch was good. We had chicken and mash potatoes and after lunch, we were able to rest. We had a whole hour to rest and it was called REST HOUR. During rest hour, Mike gave us a post card to write to our parents, so I wrote mom and dad a letter. |

| After rest hour there was a loud noise; sounded like a Calvary charge, and the kids started to run out like crazy. I followed them to a shack next to the dining hall where they had candy and drinks. They call it CANTEEN. I was allowed to get 2 snacks. I asked for a drink and some chips. I watch the kids swim in the lake as I eat my snack and drink my drink I got from, the canteen. I got bored so I went back to the cabin to get changed so that I can go swimming when it was out turn to swim. The bell rang and everyone who was swimming had to get out and then we were allowed to swim. I played with my new friends I had made and that was fun. The swim was over and we had to get ready for the rest of the circuit we started in the morning. I was able to do basketball, horseback, and swimming and water-ski. Those were fun and I had fun. After that was over the dinner bell played and we had to line up again. Dinner was pretty fast and was great. After dinner, we were allowed to play for a while until the welcome program began. At the welcome program, the counselors told us their names, what they will be teaching and where they are from. My counselor is from Florida, he will teach soccer and archery. The welcome program was short and after it was over we had to go back to our cabins. Mike told us to take showers and get ready for bed. I did what I was told, but others argued and yelled. I fell asleep before the arguments ended because I was tired from all the things that we did today. I woke up early and went to breakfast. During breakfast they told us that we would be signing up for our activities. I didnt have to clean the table today because I did it yesterday, so I was able to go to the cabin to clean up. Cabin clean up was harder this time, because the kids argued about what their choirs were. My job was to make sure the cloths outside was still wet and neat and organized. My job was easy, but the others were not. The kids argued more and more until tit was time to sign up for our activities. The activity signup was long and boring, but I was able to sign up for the things I wanted. I was able to sign up for horseback, go- carts, crafts, swimming, soccer, Riflery, and water-ski. After activity sign-up, lunch was served. It wasnt a great lunch, since I didnt like what they were serving, hamburger. So I at the other things, like salad and the side stuff. After lunch is rest hour. During rest hour, we had to get ready for tonight, which was called the Mardi Gras. We received a piece of paper with a mask design on it and had to cut it out and decorate it. I decorated with some colors and feathers. After rest hour was over, I got up got my canteen and played in the Rec Hall. Our counselor told us that we were going to do slip and slide for our cabin afternoon. I didnt know what it was until I got there. It was a big huge, gray mat that was near the swim area and it led down to the lake. Our counselor had to water the slide it so that we can slide down it. We had fun and it lasted for a while until the bell for dinner rang. Dinner was great and after dinner we had time to relax and get our canteens. Tonights activity was going to be fun after I found out that there was candy involved. All the cabins lined up and made a little parade route where a counselor on a go-kart came by throwing candy and another in a barrel and one on a boatlift throwing candy. I was able to get some candy and some necklaces and then we had to go to the counsel ring where we sang songs and had fun. We were sent on our way to bed and in the cabin we didnt have any problems so going to bed was easy. The next morning, I woke up at 7:45 and went to the Rec Hall to play pool, but the tables were all full and kids were waiting for the other games to end. So I just sat there watching. Breakfast today was small and not as good. It was eggs and grits. Grits are yucky and the eggs were soggy. SO I didnt eat much and that was that. Cabin clean up was even more frustrating, but Mike was able to control them today and the jobs got done. My activity today is horseback, swimming, and water-skiing. In horseback, the director was really nice and I was able to ride a horse, named Molly, for ten minutes and since it was my first time, it was exciting. I got to ride the horse twice and then off to swimming I went. In swim, we had to swim from the dock to the small floating dock and back. Some kids had a hard time doing it, but I didnt, because I knew how to swim. So for the rest of the class time, few others and me were able to play around and we had fun. After swimming, I didnt have to go far because water- ski was just a few feet away. In water- ski, I was able to get a chance to learn how to ski. Being my first time, I did well. We were able to get three tries and for the first try, I fell flat on my face, but I kept trying. So the second time, I got up and went around the lake and fell again, then I was giving another try, but I fell. In all, I had fun skiing. Lunch was great and I was hungry since I didnt have a big breakfast. For lunch they served Turkey and rice with gravy and bread. I love turkey, so I was able to have as much as I want. I helped out cleaning up lunch and off to the cabin for rest hour. During rest hour, the kids were really rowdy so one of the head staff has to come in and to calm them down. I tried to sleep, but because they were loud, I wasnt able to do so. The head staff left after he thought they were calm, but they got loud again. So the counselor said, "If you dont be quite, this whole cabin will miss canteen." As soon as they heard the word 'canteen, they became silent. I fell asleep a few minutes later and I was so tired that I missed the canteen call and swim. My counselor woke me up for the afternoon activity. The afternoon activity was fun. We had a choice of what we wanted to do. We could either go to one of the 12 choices that was available. I choose Horseback and Arts and crafts. I went on horseback first because that seemed like the most fun at first and it was then I went to crafts and made some bracelets. I finished my bracelets, 2 of them and then it was over. Dinner was like any other dinner, great and that was great. After dinner, we had some free time before the evening activity started. Canteen was shortly after dinner and then we all lined up for wheel of fortune. We were sent to the Lodge where we were divided up into 4 groups. I was in the B group. We played 6 games in those 6 games, group A won the most, so they won. We were able to get one of the 6 and so did the rest of the groups. After it was over, we went to bed. Thats all I can remember because I woke up the next morning and I was late for breakfast. I had to sit down outside on a bench, because I was late, and wait until I was let in. Breakfast was rushed because I had a short time to eat. Today I had go- carts, Riflery, and crafts. In go- carts, since the attendance was small, we were able to go around the track more then once. In Riflery I was able to shoot down 2 of 5 targets the first time, 1 of 5 the second and 3 of 5 the third. That was good for my first time. It was exciting being able too a gun. Then I went to crafts. In crafts, I learned how to make a dream catcher. We started on it, but didnt get to finish it. Lunch and rest hour went by fast today and my 'C activity was up. I felt like there was no break. My 'C activity was soccer. In that class we did some basic drills and since I know how to play and had played for a couple of years, I knew the basic drills. After the drills we had a game. It was uneven teams so the counselor who taught it joined in on the others team. That wasnt fair because the counselor was way better then us. Dinner also seemed to go by fast. Then off to bed we went. The day seemed way too quick. I woke up the next morning to the kids jumping up and down, stomping on the floor and just making a lot of noise. Mike screamed at them to leave and so they did. After they left, I couldnt sleep so I also got up got dressed and went to the Rec hall. There werent that many people there so I was able to play pool. I lost to the kid I was playing so I left there and sat outside looking at the lake. The first bell for breakfast rang and I went into the kitchen because my table has KP. Breakfast was over and cabin clean- up was quick. The bell rang for our activity so I left because my job was done. I was able to ride for ten minutes and that was all for that day. In swimming we did more laps, but also had fun. We played Marco Polo and that was a fun game to play. I was it for a couple of times and then class was over. In water ski, I got excited because I was able to get up on my first try this time and went around the lake and fell. I decided that that was good enough for one day and so then came lunch. Lunch was great, like always, but I missed my moms cooking. In rest hour today we wrote to our parents. |
