Camp Experience
3 A.M. and the child is awake with the idea of going off to camp. He is excited and full of joy with little worries and hardly any problems. That would be the perfect start of a good summer, but the day has just begun. The child is asleep while I look on him to make sure; Im up half the night worrying about if hes going to like this new camp that I found in an Ad. A month ago, I received a notice that said, Your child is all checked in and booked on a flight to Greenville airport where one of the staff will greet and meet him." I worry about how homesick he will be, but then I look back and recall my days as a camper and how much fun I had. Then I forget about all my worries and settle in for the night. The post card that they sent me is here:
As I sit here looking at the postcard with the camp on it, I am amazed at it. I see a wide lake with a boat in it, a swimming area, and a canoe area, and a place where you can ride horses. As I recall back and remember what I had gone through as a camper, this camp looks much nicer. I see kids playing in a big field and there are many trees surrounding them. 'Hell love this camp, I say to myself and off to bed I go. The alarm rings at 8:30 and sluggishly get up. Kay is up already watching TV and when he sees me he starts to jump up and down like a happy dog just about to get food. I say 'good morning and go into the kitchen and fix him some breakfast. "Are you EXCITED?" I ask him, thinking I didnt know. "Very much," he says with excitement. Full of excitement and ready to roll, we sit and eat a big breakfast before we do a little cloth shopping. Not knowing what itll be like, I get him some nice shorts and jeans and many, many socks. It gets closer and closer to the departure date and he is even more excited. The day had come for him to leave. Just abut a month ago, we were getting ready and now the time has come. We pack the car with his red suitcase full of cloths for 2 weeks and his backpack filled with his stuffed animals, some coloring book and some things to keep him busy during the flight. We get to the airport around 12:30 and check him in so that he can have a good seat. He is given a window seat, which he loves and we go to the gate to wait for boarding. As I sit there waiting for the plane to board, I look around and see the parents with the same expression on their face as I do. The I hope my child likes this camp that they are going to look. The other kids are laughing and playing, looking out the glass, staring at the big plane in front of them. The time has now come to board the plane. A Lady in a blue dress with a Delta wing pin on her outfit takes the kids from their parents and leads them into the plane. The parents all say their 'good-byes and tell them to enjoy themselves and then they are out of out sights. We all wait until the plane takes off and as we are waiting we talk about what camp they are going to. A few are going to the same camp, while others are going to camps near the one that Kay will be at. The plane takes off and we all go off in out different directions and I head on home. At home I do some house cleaning and take my mind off of Kay, but as I do so, I just pray that he enjoys the camp and that he arrives there safely.
