| We
are champions of the MCC Six-A-Side Tournament Plate!! We need to
pat ourselves on the back and congratulate ourselves. We went into
the tournament to play and win five games. We achieved the first objective
but lost one game. The loss came in the first round against MCC I
and put us in the Plate playoffs and out of the Cup playoffs. The
top four teams from each of four zones went to the Cup playoffs and
the next best from each of the four zones went to the Plate playoffs.
We won our semifinals and finals quite calmly, professionally and
easily to capture the Plate. Our guys were proud of their trophies.
We did not lose a wicket in any game except
the one we lost!! We lost three wickets in that game putting up
a gallant effort falling 10 runs short of the78 run target. The
team was comprised of Vincent Bennett, Paul Johnson, Andie Williams,
Joey Smith, Ansel Mena, Patrick Winchester, Neville Beckford and
Olaide Banks. Errol Eccles joined the team for the finals.
This is the dawning of a new era. Our
team, even without some key players, we professional and focused.
We must not lose this spirit. I want to congratulate Bagga and Paul
for the leadership of the team in my absence and after I got back.
The leadership transition was seamless. I also want to thank Patrick
who made about 150 runs for once out. He got a special trophy. I
also want to congratulate the new guys, Joey and Andie and wish
them long years with the team. I also thank the chief cheerers,
Charlene Williams and her son Johnathan. Also, thanks to the other
wives and cheerers who came out like Mrs. Johnson, Beverin Ffrench
(Binns), Peter Hinds, etc. We look forward to more positive support
in the playoffs.
Errol Eccles. Captain
