| The club was formed
in 1980 as the Houston West Indies Cricket Club with members playing the
sport of their dream, Cricket. The Houston Cricket League was established
there after and before you know it, the tournaments were on there way. The
game of cricket has evolved in Houston to day with twenty two teams and
has made it new Mecca for cricket in the Southwest region of
Texas.
In 1981 we were successful in winning the Six-A-Side Tournament in Dallas and from that point on, the club saw a new growth in membership. In 1993 we changed the name to Houston West Indies Sports Club to accommodate more sporting activities as well as females who were interested in playing Net Ball. The club has grown over the years with new and changing members but there was no sense of ownership among us. Our goal in 2002 2003 is to change the status of the club from a 501c(7) to a 501c(3) and we did. With this new corporation status we were allowed to change to its current name of West Indies Sports Organization of Houston. We are now able to receive financial contribution of great magnitude and to acquire assets of our own to buy property so we can build a club house, cricket field, soccer field and other amenities. We are looking for sponsorship from various companies in the Houston and surrounding who are willing to support our cause as a non-profit organization. We are committed to making this organization
very successful and we hope that you can join us. |
