Heavy Woollen Donkeys 24 - 20 Leeds Lost Loiners
I was pleased with the way that we played on Sunday. I thought it was a good, close game that we could have won if it hadn't been for some bery good scrambling defence by Leeds in the last minutes of the game. Our defence was good, particularly on our own line. It was just some momentary lapses that allowed Leeds to score. Our straight drives were good as we gained yards from each one and no-one took a backwards step. We let ourselves down a bit when on the attack as we consistently failed to get the ball our wide and our completion rate was pitiful. We need more consistency at acting-half as we had too many different players trying to play there when they should have either been taking a drive or getting to first receiver. Hooker is a problem position as we have a number of players who have played there including myself, Grant and Simon at Mirfield, Dean, Andy, Sinbad and Smiler at the Donkeys. I think the best solution is to decide on who is at hooker and just have that one player directing from acting half. It was difficult for the acting-half as there a few occasions when they were looking for runners that just weren't there, which is something we need to work on in training. All in all though it was a very good first hit up for us that we can take some possitives from and hopefully learn from the negatives. |
