Sahara Boy meets the Sonora

Partly due to a messy divorce, my grandmother went through
hard times during the 1930s, like many other families during the
Depression Era. As a result, my mother and my aunts, who were born
in Harlem, NYC were put on a train to travel as children, alone,
to be taken care of by several different relatives, all over the country.
The aunts who finally agreed to take my mother and one sister
in for the long term lived in Tuscan, AZ. (One was also divorcee,
the other one was sick with Tuberculosis) The other two sisters
were taken care of by another aunt in California.
Having a substantial part of our parents later childhood and teenage
years in Tuscan, it was easy for my cousin's and I to relate to the city of
Tucson, much more than Phoenix. The employment situation, however,
had the last say concerning the location of where some cousins lived and
that was in Pheonix. I wanted to visit them. But, my husband wanted to
visit relatives in who lived in Europe.
The year before we had already visited some of his family in Egypt.
I argued that it was my family's turn.
He argued that we would be in Europe....
Finally I argued that in Europe, the best things to see were built by
humans hundreds of years ago while the best things to see in Arizona
were formed by God or nature - millions or years ago.
NOW, WHO CAN TOP THAT?!?!
