Welcome to my collection of travel information I keep handy.
Obviously, the info you find here will be incomplete. I am new to html and a total
illiterate in computers anyway. I am not a "world traveler" like many who have set up
pages here and elsewhere. I do like to see new places never-the-less and I do
like to share with others about my experiences and opinions, with and without the
family. I may enlighten some and offend others. (Hey, nobody has to agree!)
As my experience with traveling and building with HTML grows so
will this website.. I hope!
I was born in upstate New York. (YES!! After the dinosaurs were extinct!) and have l
ived a short while in Hartford, Connecticut. For five years, I lived in San Francisco, CA. In 1984, I moved to New York City. First living in the lower east
side of Manhatten and after move to Queens (That is where the rent is cheaper and
the residents are more humble)
In the early 1990's I married an Egyptian born who was living in Queens when we
met and we have visited his (now my) family. Come back when I get a few pages built
about my visit to that wonderful country.
When I travel, I usually try to avoid resorts and organized tours. That is not to say that
I disaprove of them 100%. Occassionally we take a one day excursion here and
there. And sometimes, it can be nice to "take a break" from the sightseeing,
museums and cultural experiences and goof off at a resort.
Before I met my husband, I had traveled extensively to the Yucatan Peninsula
in Mexico. My adventures there nearly got me adopted by one family. Again,
I went with a determination to see the backroads and learn about the people I
soon grew to love. I am not saying that I did not have fun in Cancun or other tourist
hot spots. I only say that what I experienced in that boomtown like Cancun was very
different from what I experienced in the farm community of Tedzits (near Merida,
Yucatan) for many days at a time, while staying with a friend's family.
Yes I am an American! And it would be obscene to not travel within our borders.
We have visited many states and intend to see more, especially Alaska.
Hopefully you will find something useful if you plan to go to any of the place where
I have been. I know that what you see is actually breif at the time of this writing,
but I am a not a walking "Lonely Planet Guide to the world either.
As I have already said, I am using this site top share my personal travel experiences.
Some of you may asked why I don't just use other travel member sights. Well the
truth is I was an active member at VirtualTourist.com. Unfortunately, I became
disillusioned with the staff on that sight when they, in my opinion, handled racism very
poorly. One "Ambassador" from Michigan, even emailed me a letter that showed
her stereotypical point of view and a had clear hint to her bigotry.
Another major motivation to leave happened on Martin Luther King Day
(January 15th). In the discussion section where people can ask travel related
questions, we had seen many forums about "sinterclaus" (the Dutch version of
Santa Claus) and many other not so "travel related" postings that were still
alive at the time of THIS writing.
One American posted a forum celebrating Martin Luther King Day. It was pulled off
completely with in an hour by a staff member. Their argumant was that it was only a
"trivial and localized holiday" and was deleted as "inapropriate" while "Sinterclaus"
and "Queen's Day" and other European, non-travel related messages were
obviously given preferential treatment as enforcing the rules go.
The pages I have so far are listed below. All of them, especially Arizona, are under
construction. I do hope you enjoy what I have so far. However, I urge you to come back and enjoy more in the future. I am in process of building my
Egyptian pages.
