Birthday Celebration
While Mom (that would be me :) cleans out the toyroom and girls' bedroom to make room for NEW things, the girls are enjoying their gifts. We have opened just about every box. The girls are painting here with "wonder paints" (that doesn't really have color without the special paper...a mom's dream). Tonight they played a "Hot Potato" game with a giggling Elmo. Maria is enjoying many new vehicles she received, and Lauren has been crafting away with her MANY craft items. It was a special day...what special gifts BOTH girls are to us!

After the presents were opened (or many of them...we finally had to stop), it was time for cake. Maria, donning one of her MANY new pairs of sunglasses, posed for this picture with her care bear cake. I have to say, she didn't cry this year when we sang the "Happy Birthday" song (which she also enjoys singing). However, she wasn't quite sure what to do about those hot candles...

Since the girls have birthdays two weeks apart, we chose to have one birthday party (to help family who might travel). This year Lauren got to pick the theme...care bears. (You can see that in the picture with Lauren to the left) We had care bear decoration, care bear balloons, care bear tablecloth. Our family (including two sets of grandparents, two great grandmothers, one aunt, two cousins, and two close family friends) came over on Saturday, June 16, for lunch, presents, and cake. We always enjoy the time with our families. While Maria was a little slow to warm up, she is much quicker about it now than she was this time last year!
After lunch, the girls were ready to open their gifts. Oh my, were there a lot of gifts! We had tried cutting back a little bit, but there was still PLENTY to open (I am still putting it away...). Lauren kept saying she was so "lucky". I told her that she was blessed. As you can tell from the pictures, the girls loved their gifts...clothes, toys, books, art supplies, a sandbox, games, even gift cards. They are fortunate little girls!
After we sang "Happy Birthday" to the three year old, it was time to sing to the six year old. Lauren, on the other hand, knows exactly what to do with the candles. As soon as we were done singing, she had those candles blown out. I wonder what she wished for?

Here is a picture of Maria enjoying her cake. She does not have a strong sweet tooth (like her sister), but she is almost always willing to try. For some reason, Maria becomes quite the "ham" at the table. I am so glad family and friends can see how silly she is capable of being!
