| I found out that I was pregnant with Emmalee about 2 weeks before I married her father, Tim. We were overjoyed at the thought of adding another child to our family, which already included my son, Matthew, from a previous relationship. The pregnancy went pretty well until I was about 6 months along, when my tummy "dropped." I had regular labor pains from then on until she was born on January 1st, 1999. |
| I got really big with Emmalee by the time I was 9 months along with her and I could do little more than waddle around the house. After 28 hours of labor, out she came...It was a beautiful Thursday Morning and the sun was out. Emmalee was the third baby born in the High Desert in 1999. She was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck and right arm and she was having trouble breathing, so she was taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where she was started on antibiotics. She had to stay for a total of 8 days. |
| When I finally got to take her home, she met her big brother for the first time. They were like two peas in a pod: Where he went, she went. I quickly learned that Emmalee had a personality all her own from the get-go. She never liked to be held for too long because she loved to explore. She was very aware of her surroundings and she watched everything everyone around her was doing. One thing was certain--She was an independent person from the moment she was born. She knew what she wanted and how to get it. She was either crying or laughing. She hardly ever just sat there. She was always trying to get her point across--A trait that has carried with her even to this day. I know that quality will help her when she grows up. |
