Technical Checklist
1. Is your Composer file named MyHeritage2?
Did you create it by opening your
MyHeritage1 and saving it as MyHeritage2?
2. Make sure your page has a title like Hulda's
Heritage, Brendon's Background, Carla's Culture.
Your Web site name must have your
first name in it and a word that means heritage or culture.
Save after adding or changing
the name of your site.
3. Change the page title to My Heritage
2:
a. Place your cursor anywhere
on the page that is not on text, on an image or inside
a table.
b. Right click where your cursor is,
select Page Properties.
c. Go to the General tab, change
the Title to My Heritage 2 (with spaces!)
d. Save
4. Center your symbols: Click on each image
and press Ctrl E.
Save each time you center an
image.
5. Add a caption below each image:
a. Move cursor to right of image and
press Enter.
b. Identify each picture with 2 or
3 words. Center the captions.
c. Save after you add each
caption.
6. Adjust image sizes
a. All images of the same shape should
be the same height. Flag heights should be max. 100
pixels.
b. Images that are taller than others
should have the same width as the others.
c. In general, no image height should
be more than 150 pixels, except for maps.
d. Maps should be only large enough
to read important words.
e. Save after you make a change to
an image (each time you make a change you want to keep).
7. If you have more than one culture on
one side of your family:
a. Try to put all symbols on the
same line. But do not put more than 3 on a line.
b. Separate images on the same
line with a + and put a space on each side of the +
c. Separate captions with a
| (found above the main Enter key).
d. Separate rows of images
in the same cell (box) with a blank line (press Enter).
e. Save each time you
successfully complete a change to your images and captions.
8. Use the following font sizes:
a. Title: 24
b. Sub-headings: 18
c. Captions: 12
d. Rest of text: 14
e. Save after each change you
make to a font size.
9. At the bottom of your page, put the following, centered:
Webmaster: Your first and last name
Last updated: Month, # 2004
a. Make the Webmaster
line is bold italics
b. Make the Last updated
line is bold. Change the date every day you work on your
page.
c. Save after each change
10. Make sure all images from the Internet are
linked to their source.

Instructions for researching your family culture
1. Choose one culture on one side of your family to research.
You may choose the culture you are
most familiar with so you can teach others about it.
Or you may choose a culture you know
less about so you can learn more about it.
2. Below your table introduction, add a sub-title, such
as:
Traditions my family follows from
its culture(s) ... and where they come from
or
My Swedish Culture
or
My Cherokee Culture
or
My African American Culture
etc.
3. Start researching each of the catagories listed below
(Food, Music, Language, etc.)
a. Try to find at least two items
for each category
b. Put one item on each line
c. Copy the URL (Web address) of your
source of information and
paste it below
the item (see below).
4. See how Ms Nystrom does it on her example My Heritage 2 Web page (Hulda's Heritage).
