Paintanic
We decided to paint our office billiard table
green. That's the name of the paint but also right on as far as description.
It's so dark that the office required 4 coats of paint! We were hoping to get it
covered with 2 gallons but ended up needing more paint. We didn't think 1 more
gallon would do it, but didn't think we needed 2 gallons, so we got 1 gallon, 1
quart.
My dad was designated in charge of painting the office. He does really well with
really thick paint. Mom and I were starting to tape off the next room while he
got started in the office. He decided to shake the quart of paint in his hands.
He also decided to come out into the dining room to talk to us while he did it.
The can ended up slipping out of his hand and the lid flew off. We spilled 1/2
the quart in the middle of my dining room floor!
Then, while reaching for some paper towels, we dumped the can again, this time
spilling 1/4 a quart off to the far side of the room.
Fortunately we had my carpet cleaner here. I freaked out a bit when Dad sucked
paint right of the carpet with it. Then Mom decided we needed to keep pouring
water over the paint and suck that out with the carpet cleaner. More and more of
the floor was getting dirty from carrying the dirty water out to dump it, so I
pulled out the window screen and we dumped the water right out in the lawn under
the window. That was working ok, until Dad decided we needed to put dish soap on
the carpet. My carpet cleaner is a suds free machine, so he dishsoap really
messed with it. It started blowing suds and green water out of every little
crack and crevice! So more water went on the floor to dilute the soap.
All in all, I think that Mom put 100 gallons of water on the floor! I was really
freaked out about that too. Ruining the carpet is one thing, but the subflooring
is entirely different! We sucked more of the water back up, but there are now 2
giant water spots that cover 2/3 of the carpet rather then 2 green spots the
size of dinner plates. The carpet is ruined but I think the sub flooring is ok.
When we can afford it, I think we'll put a laminate flooring down.
