Weaving Tools:  Hand weavers use many different tools during the weaving process.  I have provided a list of commonly used items used by weavers using floor looms.

1. Loom: Floor, Inkle, Back-Strap, Rigid Heddle, Tapestry, Triangle.
2. Reed: Slotted metal piece of varying slot widths which fits inside of    the beater.  Yarns pass through the slots.
3. Warp Board, Pegs, Mill or Sectional Warp Beam for counting off       inches of yarn to be put on your loom..
4. Shuttles, at least 2.  Boat, Rag or Stick.  Boats are used for
weaving fabric, Rag and Sticks are most commonly used for rugs.
5. Bobbins: Used with Boat shuttles.  These can be purchased or made  using a wide strip of paperbag rolled tightly and secured with glue or        rubber bands.
6. Bobbin Winder: A device that coils yarn around a bobbin.  These     can be hand cranked or electric.  Please see my picture below for         an inexpensive way of making your own with a hand-held kitchen          mixer.
7. Reed and/or Heddle Hook: A long hook which is used to grab yarns and pull them through the reed and heddles.
8. Yarn: Any type

Bobbin Winder:  Made from a kitchen hand mixer.  This model had a drink whipper attachment.  My husband cut off the round blade at the botton of the steel post and now I slide a bobbin on the post and secure by placing a toothpick between the bobbin and post.  Then wrap yarn around bobbin and turn mixer to low speed and yarn will wind on.  Use fingers to guide yarn up & down bobbin so that yarn is spread evenly amongst the bobbin.
