JKR 85th on Most Powerful Women List

U.S. magazine Forbes has released yet another list, this one of the "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women." Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is listed at number 85.

It has been a rapid ascent for Rowling, 39, the creator of the Harry Potter media phenomenon. Since the release of her first novel, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," Rowling has sold 250 million copies and become a billionaire in the process. Three films about the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry have grossed more than $2 billion at the box office worldwide. Rowling is currently writing the next installment in the Potter series. The Door Has Opened

The "Do Not Disturb" sign on J.K. Rowling Official Site has been taken down...and in it's place stands what looks to be like an edited piece of Book 6:

(He) looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp.

Catch-up News Post

This news post will have a lot of random news that has happened within the last month or so as to provide a reference point.

Book 6-related
--According to Scholastic, the global childrens publishing and media company that publishes J.K. Rowlings popular and wonderful series of Harry Potter books, the title for the 6th Edition of the Harry Potter series will be Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
--This was confirmed by the J.K. Rowling official website, who also posted that the Half-Blood Prince is neither Lord Voldemort nor Harry Potter. It will be a great mystery to discover who is. Perhaps Neville Longbottom or Albus Dumbledore? The spectulation, I am sure, will be almost as fun as the revelation!
--On March 15, Rowling posted to her website that Book 6 is well underway.
--A publication date has not been announced yet.

PoA movie-related
--In related news, Warner Bros.will release Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban out on home video/DVD on November 23.

GoF movie-related
--It has been confirmed by Warner Bros. that the actors playing Fleur Delacour and Cedric Diggory in Goblet of Fire will be French actress Clemence Poesy and British actor Robert Pattinson. Along with the casting of Scottish teen Katie Leung as Cho Chang, Frances de la Tour as Madame Maxime, Brendan Gleeson as Mad-Eye Moody and Bulgarian actor Stanislav Yanevski will star as Victor Krum.

Thanks so much to KAT for her contribution of this news post!

Czech President Replies to JKRs Letter

Several weeks ago, J.K. Rowling sent a letter to the Czech government expressing her disapproval of the use of caged and net beds for mentally challenged children. The Czech president wrote a letter to Jo in response:

The issue of using particular restrictive means, as well as the overall regime for handicapped patients in medical institutions has been intensively discussed at the political level and in the public for a long time. It has its moral and ethical aspect, but the arguments of medical experts are equally important. It is impossible to simply shift the argument to the issue of abiding or abusing human rights. It is necessary to carefully evaluate the use of restrictive means in the treatment of individual patients. It is also necessary to find appropriate methods of preventing mentally handicapped people from injuring or mutilating themselves or others. Neither the Czech expert public, nor myself, can accept your radical and extremely simplified opinion caused by an emotive, and very tendentious article.
