JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS SHOWS
    Now unlike the Archie and Sabrina programming, Josie and the Pussycats were not distributed by Filmation or (so far at least) DiC Entertainment.  They were in fact distributed by Hanna-Barbera.  I had just found out why Archie Comics had Josie and the Pussycats distributed with Hanna-Barbera instead of Filmation.  H-B saw the success Filmation was having with Archie and Sabrina (Note that Filmation and Hanna-Barbera were competitors at the time) they approched Archie Comics about another one of their properties to be made into a TV show.  They gave H-B Josie and the rest is history.  My guess is that H-B wanted to have Josie before Filmation got their hands on it.

     Anyway, Josie and the Pussycats hit the airwaves in 1970 to rave reviews.  In 1972 another incarnation appeared in the form of Josie and the Pussycats In Outer Space.  Also an appearance on The New Scooby Doo Movies is noted.  But that (besides the 2001 MGM/Universal big screen movie Josie and the Pussycats) is it as far as Josie in the media is concern.  Here are the shows.

WEBMASTER'S NOTE: When (if ever) a Josie program surfaces from DiC, this section will be renamed the Hanna-Barbera Era.  Until then, it'll stay Josie Shows.  UPDATE (12/10/2003):  I also just learned that DiC WAS in fact toying with the idea of making a Josie series of their own back in 2001 to tie in with the movie that was coming out.  When the movie flopped, DiC put the series on hold.  We can only hope that they will make a JPC series sometime soon...
