THE FILMATION ERA
If the name "Filmation" sounds familiar,  you might have seen some of its shows.  The most familiar being Fat Albert, He-Man and She-Ra, the animated version of Star Trek, and the feature film Happily Ever After.  Filmation is highly underrated as a studio (They also produced live-action shows as well as animated).  Founded by Lou Scheimer, Norm Prescott, and Hal Sutherland, they produced some clever shows.

So when Archie Comics decided to put together an animated show based on Archie and the gang, they went to Filmation to start the show, and that began Archie being on TV.  They also recruited record producer Don Kirshner (who had already had success with The Monkees) to put together a band for the show called (of course) The Archies.  He recruited songwriter Jeff Barry, who was best known for his work with the legendary Phil Spector at that point (His credits include the Ike and Tina Turner hit "River Deep, Mountain High" written with Ellie Greenwich).  The formation of The Archies included Ron Dante (he would later go on to produce songs for Barry Manilow and Pat Benatar to name a few) and singer/songwriter Andy Kim (best known for the #1 1974 hit "Rock Me Gently").  More on The Archies later, though.

But Archie Comics affiliation with Filmation proved to be a ratings smash, spawning eleven series's based off the comic book characters that ran from 1968 to 1978.  Now, let's take a look at the series's.

WEBMASTER'S NOTE:  I will NOT include any of The Groovie Goolies shows (with the exception of Sabrina and the Groovie Goolies because Sabrina is an Archie Comics product) because that show was NOT created by Archie Comics (even though Sabrina appeared with them from time to time) but by Filmation themselves.  Let's proceed.
