     MC Trachiotomy: The H.o.S. Interview

UD:
What was the initial reaction you got when Robot Alien or Ghost was released? Was it embraced immediately or did it take awhile for folks to catch up to what you were doing?

T: The first releases were just me putting it on cassette for touring. The guys at anal log records said they wanted to put it out--this was a few years after it was made. I'm not sure enough people have been exposed to that record to have caught on to the recording, really. The ones who have heard it truly seem to enjoy it. A guy named DOIL in Boston got RAoG in the mail from corresponding with the people at the Residents site? A bit of a mystery!

UD:
Perhaps the most "burning" question that remains from the Robot Alien or Ghost album is, have your problems with "aBnormal unrination" cleared up?

T: The song is about standing outside of a bathroom in a court yard of a restaurant while it's raining. The people occupying the facility are doing drugs or something--taking much longer that any excretion should take. "I'm about to wet my pants all the while doing the St. Vitus dance...." So yes, that has cleared up.......until next time.

UD:
Album distribution on an indie level has always been a bit of a drag. You've created two of the most genius albums in recent history. Does it bum you out people don't have easier/more widespread access to these discs, or do you like where things are at in this regard just fine?

T: Sure, it would be great if more people heard the recordings--like them or not. Maybe this interview will start the hunt for them. Things are fine as they stand now. I have many irons in the fire all of the time and the recording hasn't stopped. So, who knows what could happen? It is safe to say VIACOM is not looking for me, THANKFULLY--though a few extra million bucks wouldn't bother me one iota.

UD:
You recently did a live radio performance on WFMU. I thought it was great and was wondering if you had any plans on making that performance a release sometime down the line?

T: Some of those songs have been released on the two aforementioned records and some of those songs are already slated for new releases. As far as that particular recording being an album, it will not be a "LIVE from WFMU" release. I do appreciate the invite from WFMU and will gladly return there when in the NY area.

UD:
I saw you do a show a year or two ago at the Spellcaster Lodge with Peaches--it was an unreal evening. During your set that night, you did a song where you were onstage in these enormous cardboard cowboy boots. The tune was based around these country samples and the whole thing just blew me away. What was the name of that song and is there any plan to release/record it in the future?

T: That song was called "9th Ward HO-DOWN." It was put together by The Zodiakman and D.L Parker while I was in the Bahamas. Part of the set was written before I left and they put that song together fully wild. Zodiakman has appeared on the bulb record and will be ever present on the next release which is being engineered and mastered by D Lefty Parker. DLP and I are also working on a psychedelic record.

UD:
When you last played Memphis, you shared the bill with Dearest Darling--a band I hadn't heard of before but dug the hell out of! Are there any other bands you've played with recently people might not know about but should?

T: DANSE ASSHOLE from Detroit, Occational Detroit from Detroit, Wolf EYES from Detroit, Lovid from NYC, Corndawg from Charlottesville VA, Cathhy Cathodic from BOSTON, PePe La Ganstar/B-lite from Boston, GLORY BEE from New Orleans. Misty Martinez from Chicago, and I didn't play with them but check out the Pelicans  from Memphis--they played with Quintron and Miss Pussycat, Lundi Gras 2003.
