A brief historical overview..

The story of Hotel Smith starts in 1959 when the local entrepeneur Alvin G. Smith purchases an abandoned apartment building in Biggerstaff Street near Finsbury Park with the vision of turning it into a hotel.

This vision he shared with his beloved wife, Lydia (maiden name Tykes), and within the end of 1961, the old building was rejuvenated. Hotel Smith was finally able to entertain its first guests!

The couple then ran the hotel successfully for 32 years, before finally deciding to retire and leave the helm to younger hands, more spesifically their oldest son Gregory Smith-Tykes and his wife Fiona. They officially took over control of the hotel on the 16th of October 1993.

The hotel was given a total restoration in the fall of 1994, with a new wing being added, and the total number of rooms increasing from 16 to 30. This restoration saw it turning into a fully modern hotel, yet preserving its rustic charm.

Gregory and Fiona are proud to announce that 2003 has been the best year ever for the hotel, with in excess of 3000 guests.
