| Trooper Two Socks wasn't always his name. We gave him that name, along with a new lease on life, in November 2005. We found Trooper in Luray, VA, starving and suffering from multiple infections (eyes, skin, legs). His immune system was deprived and he had already resigned himself to dying. When he walked onto the trailer we believe he thought it was his last ride. Once we got him home, we started him on a regimented feeding schedule to put some weight back on him, and got him to the vet. "What are you intentions for this horse? Are you going to sell him, ride him, or what?" Those were the first questions out of the vets mouth. He needed to know so he knew how far to go with the treatments. Also a horse lover, and a wonderful human being, the vet only charged us $10 for the visit and $15 for the medications. He had spent over an hour evaluating Trooper but would take no more. "He's got a 50/50 chance" we were told. |
