They say pets help you to live a longer, happier life. I believe that is true, and I thank God that He thought to give us animals that are willing to share our lives.

  Cats

This is Xerxes. He weighs about 18 pounds. He's a big, lovable boy, but he still takes his cat toys very seriously. He is the king of the house, with his harem of females. Xerxes was born in May of 1997.

King Xerxes, surveying his kingdom from atop the computer desk. Life is good!
This is Piku, our shy calico tiger baby. She always waits until the other cats are finished eating before she will go to the food. She doesn't much like to be held, but does like to sit on your lap during the cold months. Piku also loves to play. All the cats' favorite toy is a stick with a string with bird feathers fastened on the end. When you swish it, it spins and sounds just like wings beating. Piku was born in April of 1997.
Here is my newest kitten. Her name is Pie. She is a sweet little kitten, very loving, but a little terror when she wants to be. She uses the two big cats as punching bags. They put up with her for a while, but then they walk off. She was born in July of 2000.
Here is Pie back before we had a pc desk. She loved the heat from the monitor and acted drugged as she basked on top of it. Now the monitor is in a cubbyhole, so she can't get a sauna anymore. :(
  Fish

The 55-gallon fish tank. If you like fish, you will relate when I tell you I wish I could have a 200-gallon tank. But my house is too small. I have various tropical freshwater fish and live plants. If you want to have fish, make sure you buy the biggest tank you can afford and have room for. Your fish will be healthier and happier. Click here to visit a great website about fresh water tropical fish.

  German Shepherds

This is Iska, my 85-pound all-black German Shepherd. Her favorite game was fetch the ball and do everything possible NOT to give it back to me! Iska had her Canine Good Citizen certification, which is the first step in obedience training. If you adopt ANY dog, I recommend that the two of you attend at least a basic obedience class. It is so much fun! And it's good for your dog.

Iska was a very lucky dog. Our area now has dog parks, places that are fenced in where you can take your dog off-leash and not worry about them chasing deer or rabbits. It's a wonderful way to socialize dogs. Our parks are here thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers who organize twice-yearly cleanup days. Then the rest of us show up with shovels and pails!

Sadly, my sweet Iska died in August of 2002 after having an auto-immune attack that could not be gotten under control. She was such a good girl.

I am searching for another GSD. I will adopt a dog from our local GSD rescue group.
