"An urgent call for you from Senator Palpatine," said one of the Handmaidens as the Queen finished her salad. "What is it?" asked the Queen, rising.
"He didn't say, Your Majesty," the Handmaiden told him. The Queen went to the comm-station in one corner of the room.
"Yes, Senator?" she asked as she seated herself and the hologram of Senator Palpatine sprang to life.
"My Queen," began the quarter-sized image of the Naboonian Senator. "I have heard rumors of what the Trade Federation accuses."
All heads in the room turned to regard Senator Palpatine's image. "And what is it they accuse us of, Senator?" asked the Queen.
"Slavery," he intoned. His voice held a low note of disgust and offense. "They say that the Gungans are being sold as slaves by our human population. Apparently, they have holographic evidence to that effect.
"My Queen," he asked, fury barely concealed in his demeanor. "There is no truth to this accusation."
"Of course not," the Queen said, honest shock radiating from her. "How could you even entertain-"
"Your Majesty," the Senator responded, harshly, "I have no doubt of your personal character, but I must confess that I do have my doubts about certain of our countrymen. I should like to have proof of the baselessness of these accusations before such a grievous matter is brought before the Senate, humiliating our people, you, and myself before the entire Republic."
"I appreciate your concern, Senator," the Queen retorted, and her voice was as cold as his. "Especially for your personal humiliation. If you will excuse me, I have matters that need my attention."
With that, she ended the communication. "Gentlemen," she said, rising. "I believe certain matters must be resolved as soon as they may."
