It's an exciting time to be a producer of independent movies.

While Hollywood continues to churn out their usual quota of over-produced crap, there are plenty of producers in the low-budget world slaving away to create truly innovative and remarkable (and watchable) movies.

Now this is not to say that everything that comes out of the low-budget world is gold - no more than everything that comes out of Hollywood is crap. The difference is, in a low-budget movie, you can see where the money went, you can see the time and effort put forth by the filmmakers. You can see the care the filmmakers took in bringing their story to life.

Having worked on my own films, my attitude towards independent films has softened over the years. Even the worst piece of incoherent shot-on-VHS crud will garner my respect in this sole regard: the filmmakers bucked the odds and got it done. And that counts for a lot in my book.
