A step in the right direction?  Peter Doherty has now admitted that he is addicted to herion and crack.  Talking exclusively to London's the Evening Standard Doherty was quoted as saying "Yes I'm a heroin addict., yes I'm addicted to crack cocaine, and I don't know what to do."  He went on to say "I'm all cut up, unsure, I don't know what I'm doing, I need a good kicking and I need some help".  Presumably defending himself for leaving rehab he said "You don't go to rehab, you just kick it. It's got to come from within".  Lets hope it does.  Peter assured the Standard he was 'determined clean himself up and record again with the group'.

KAIN ROCK

If you were at King Tuts on Saturday night you'll know just how special it was.  Quite simply a coming of age.  It's not every day you get to see a brilliant band on the verge of really making it... its every friday.  Big things will happen.  Don't be a fool and miss them playing tiny venues while you can.
The Rapture have confirmed they are playing Glasgow's QMU on Saturday Septemeber 27th.  Support comes from The (wonderful) Boggs, Fat Truckers and Optimo DJs.  Thanks to Ian for the good news.

Don't forget The Rapture are playing with
Radio 4 on Monday night (25th) at Edinburgh Liquid Room.  Post Leeds fun!
We're back from Leeds via The Rapture and Radio 4 at the Liquid Room, and we're ill, but what a weekend!  But why did there have to be so many good bands?  Too many for one weekend, we had to sacrifice most of Interpol, Blur and the wonderful Stellastarr*

The Kills, Soledad Brothers, Hot Hot Heat, YYYs, The Sights, BRMC (particuarly the superb cover of Hardest Button To Button), The Libertines, VueBrendan Benson (finishing up with the whole of Detroit (and The Datsuns) on stage) were fantastic, but Whirlwind Heat were probably our band of the weekend.  Well worth ripping (another) shoe for.  Lots of Whirlwind Heat photos here.

Thanks to
Mr David Viner, Eddie and newcomer Bobby Sights for helping us track down a Whirlwind Heat shirt, Girlwind Ruth and the Bandits stalker for a great weekend, and the triplets for providing unavoidable distractions.  We miss it already.
After last weeks gig with Christian Datsun and his Durty Birds being cancelled at the last minute, Mr David Viner has confirmed he will be playing with The High Plane Drifters at the Sheffield Casbah (Wed 3rd September), York Junction (Thurs 4th), The George Leeds (Fri 5th), Stockton Georgian Theatre (Sat 6th) and Newcastle Egypt Cottage (Sun 7th).

Anyone fancy a trip to Stockton?  Any drivers want to volunteer their services?
Let us know.
Following on from their outstanding Carling Weekend slots Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have announced a full UK tour kicking off at the Barrowlands on Novemeber 1st (thanks to Ian S G for the news).  The tour runs for two weeks; Northumbria Uni (2), Manc Academy (3), Sheffield Octogon (4), Leeds Uni (5), B'ham Academy (7), Cardiff Uni (8), Bristol Academy (9), Nottingham Rock City (10), Norwich UEA (11) & Brixton Academy (13).

Meanwhile, BRMC's album,
'Take Them On, On Your Own', went straight into the UK album charts at number 3 yesterday.  See the reviews page now for our thoughts.
The time has come... the return of Blur.  Formerly a favourite band of EWO's, we've been too scared to listen to Think Tank.  Its about time to take the plunge.

Blur play the Barrowlands on Novemeber 21st, and continue their tour playing Liverpool (Liverpool Royal Court (24), Wolverhampton Civic Hall (25), Manchester Apollo (28), London Brixton Academy (December 2/3), Dublin Olympia (7/8), Brighton Centre (11) and Bournemouth BIC (12).

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Saturday 6th of September.
More news from the David Viner camp.  David has just been in the studio recorded tracks for a vinyl only 7" single release.  Recording with 'friends' he's laid down 2 tracks for the 'rare' release.  Something to keep you interested.  We'll keep you up to date with more details as and when they're announced.  Woop Woop song?  We can but hope.

In the meantime if you've yet to get your hands on one of those elusive Mr David Viner badges you can get one from
www.mrdavidviner.com, all you need to do is write the man a short poem.  Perhaps this new photo will be inspiration?
Bit of a last minute news up date for any of you in London.  The Gems, one of Glasgows finest rock'n'roll bands, are playing their first show in London at Fierce Panda's Club Fandango tomorrow night at Dublin Castle.  The Gems are due on stage at 9.30pm, so get yourselves along.  If thats too short notice you can catch them at Alan McGee's Death Disco at the Notting Hill Arts Club on October 29th.

If your in Manchester you can catch
The Gems at Night & Day Cafe on Sept 15th as part of In The City.  Click here for more details
Franz Ferdinand are starting their UK tour tonight (Sunday 7th), playing Optimo @ The Sub Club.  Unfortunately the rumours that Kain are supporting aren't true.

With debut single, Darts of Pleasure, released on 7", CD and limited edition 12", on
Domino on Monday (8th Sept), the band continue their tour playing London ICA (10th), Sheffield Fez Club (17th), Oxford Zodiac 2 (18th) finishing at Liverpool Academy 2 with Ladytron (19th).
More local band news.  Following another sell out show, Kain will be playing Nice'n'Sleazys with The Gems on Friday October 3rd.  You can also catch The Gems supporting Snow Patrol at the QM on September 23rd.

Fellow Hamilton band,
The X1 are no longer playing at 13th Note on September 26th, but they will be playing at the Liquid Lounge on the 18th of September with The Young Hips and The Rising, and again on the 23rd of October, support to be confirmed.
Peter Doherty has been given a six month scentence after pleading guilty to burglary today at Horseferry Road Magistrates Court.  Doherty's scentence has been split into a 3 month stretch in prision, with 3 months suspended.

For more details, including some rather ridiculous statements from Judge Roger Davies, see
news story on www.nme.com.

Thanks to everyone who got in touch to let us know the news.
More news on the new David Viner single.  The two tracks which have been recorded are 'Whoop Whoop Yeeeah' and 'The Poises Grow', both of which were played at his Stereo show at the begining of July.

It's also been confirmed that both Johnny Walker and Oliver Henry of Detroit's
Soledad Brothers play on the 7" single, which is yet to be given a release date.
NME have announced the headliners of their 'Rock'n'Roll Riot Tour' to be Jet and The Hiss.  Now you many not think this is very exciting news but keep your eyes (wide) open for details of who will be joining the pair on tour.

If its all confirmed, as is currently being planned, there will be a lot of happy readers.  Sorry, but we can't say anymore.  The tour kicks off in Glasgow at the QMU on October 27th, and runs through till Novemeber 7th.

The Strokes have announced their UK tour dates for early December, in support of their new album, 'Room On Fire'.

Although venues are still to be revealed, in an e-mail sent to fans today it was confirmed that the band will play Glasgow on December 1st, Cardiff on the 3rd and London on the 5th and 6th.  Their European tour continues until the 18th.
More
As reported, almost exclusively, in our first mailout (click here to join the EWO mailing list), Mr David Viner has been confirmed as one of the acts on the NME 'Rock'n'Roll Riots' Tour running from the end of October to mid Novemeber.

Splendid news I'm sure you'll agree, won't be long till the masses are converted to the Viner cause.  Speaking of which, apparently theres an article on MDV in this months issue of Uncut Magazine.
Just a brief reminder than the rather excellent, but rather unheard of Jetscreamer are currently on their debut UK tour, they play Stereo in Glasgow on Thursday night (18th) supported by EWO favourites The Gems.  Not one to be missed.  See you all there.

If your not in Glasgow you can see Jetscreamer play at London 93 Feet East (Sept 17th),  Glasgow Stereo (18th) and Brighton Freebutt (19th).
EWO may at times feel more like David Viner News, but what can we say?  The man is worthy of it (enough praise MDV?).

Our friends over at
You're So Old Street have done a short interview with David ahead of his slot on the up-coming NME tour.  Click here to see David profess Kain to be 'one of the best bands I have ever seen' and more
Exciting times.  Tour of the year number two.  Alfie and The Flaming Lips.  It's going to be special.  The tour comes to Edinburgh and Glasgow.  Double the fun!

Dates are; Birmingham Academy (Oct 31st), Brighton Centre
(Nov 2nd), London Hammersmith Apollo (4th), Newcastle City Hall (7th), Glasgow Academy (8th) and Edinburgh Usher Hall (9th).

One of the funniest quotes I've read possibly all year, "No one member of the band is bigger than our songs. It's a rock and roll band and the coming shows will be rocking."  Kelly Jones.  Your in the Stereophonics.  Your not 'rock and roll' and no one cares.

The drummer has been sacked.  Apparently he has 'commitment problems'.  One down, two to go.

Great news for Peter Doherty.  According to nme.com Peter's sentence has been reduced from 6 months to 2 months, which including an allowance for good behavious he could be released in a weeks time.

Judge Derek Inman  was quoted as saying "We have reduced his sentence to two months which will allow for his almost immediate release."

The Gems are unfortunately no longer playing with Kain at the return of the Hit! Club at Nice'n'Sleazys on Friday night, and have no plans for another Glasgow date at present.  Kain will still be playing, with resident Hit! Club disc spinner DJ David, support to be confirmed.  Put it in your diary.

Saturday was a busy night.  EWO was blown away by the splendour of The Boggs and The Rapture at the QMU before hot footing it down to The Owsley Sunshine Album launch.  On second thoughts, hot footing it isn't perhaps the most accurate description, thanks to a few members of the party walking slowly we missed Owsley Sunshines set, but were treated to an impromptu 3 song set from The Gems

Photos from the nights activities are up in the
Gallery now.
