Here are a few pictures of my own Italian Greyhounds:
Working at an animal shelter, I learned so much about dog breeds and their differences. The Italian Greyhound stuck out to me, and although I had only met one before, when Bella came into the shelter I knew I had to have her. I called my fiancee, begging him to let me adopt the newly surrendered IG called Bella. Her previous owner was dying, and had lovingly brought her in. I kept Bella at my desk as long as I could while fiancee made his way in (he'd fallen for the breed too. That night, we brought Bella, only 9 months old,  to her new home.
Bella, we found out quickly, was quite the sassy pants, and would hold her own in the face of any large dog. Though we were madly in love with our new "doghter", she tormented the cats like there was no tomorrow. Finally we decided that, as typical with Iggies, she would do better with a brother. So we kept our eyes peeled, and it wasn't long before Armani was brought into our lives as well! He came to us at only 6 months, and was quite rambunctious. We had to teach him to use the stairs, get on the bed, and to steer clear of our momma cat. But we were right, getting a second was the best thing for Bella- and Armani, who just adores his big sister.
Cuddlebug Armani and Sassypants Bella enjoy their lives very much these days. They usually lounge in bed between their frequent romps (their loud games of tag). Their favorite place is the dog park, and they love sharing a vanilla ice cream cone after walks. Armani eats the cone, and Bella enjoys the ice cream. Bella loves meeting new people and pooches and her favorite special treat is red bell peppers! Armani hates mirrors and is shy towards strangers, but quickly can get wound up again. He can never kiss you enough, and loves showing us his tongue, as long as we show ours first.

We love taking our kids with us to outdoor malls, mountain towns (on nice days), parks, and road trips. They enjoy it very much as well, but get tired quickly  and like to rest. Everytime we take them out in public we get stares, and hear people whisper "What are those tiny dogs? Baby greyhounds? Or tall chihuahuas?" And if they're social, they'll stop and kneel down. Bella will dance on her back legs for them while Aramani climbs into their lap with no hesitance- then the strangers will give us the 1st degree about this adorable breed...but we don't mind. Thankfully, we're social . But not as much as our dogs!
Who knows if we'll have more kids like Bella and 'Mani someday. But for now, we so enjoy coming home to our affectionate kids who love us no matter what. They are delicate, fragile, and precious animals, and at the same time, they are demanding and can liven up a room in a heartbeat. Their commanding presence can be surprising to some, and charming to most. Although they can often be mistaken for other breeds- merely because so many have never heard of IGs- their defined profile and graceful features are unlike any other animal there is. Except maybe the Greyts (Greyhounds) themselves.
