"And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed." Deuteronomy 31:8
Once in a great while we come up against a detour in the roads we travel. Perhaps due to an accident or road construction, we have to alter our course. Someone who has been there ahead of us sometimes can help us with these detours. So too the Lord goes before us and knows what lies ahead. Whether it be surgery, a new job, furthering our education, the Lord goes ahead of us. He is already there, preparing each incident with His maarvelous presence. When we get there, He will see us through the hard times, directing us around and through the detours we take. He will bring us to our goals!
We trust the Lord's ability to do this because He has already gone before us to the cross. He has taken the punishment that should have rightly been ours for the sins we commit. He has endured more pain and sorrow than we will ever face in our life time. He can tell us about the detours and distresses of life from His own experiences, and then add His love and direction to it. Without Christ's strength and guidance offered through His Word and Sacrament, how could we ever endure the changes an challenges life offers us? But with it, we can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens us!
