"Hillcrest Green Week"

The Hillcrest Environment Club successfully hosted this event for the first time in Hillcrest history. 12 trees were planted at the tree planting ceremony and the occasion was graced by Kiss FM presenter, Pinky Ghelani. The badges from Wildlife Works carrying slogans such as "do something" and "extinction sucks" sold out on the first day of selling. Seeds were also selling well. Unfortunately the t-shirts did not sell as much as we had hoped.

A wonderful week in which we managed to sensitize the Hillcrest community in current environmental issues and indeed increase the club membership number.

Thank you's go to:

Anokhee who organized the 'forest' in the archway in conjunction with Riverbank Nurseries and did lots of other running around behind the scenes.

Yukiko made the origami trees for our 'sponsor a tree' project and the hot and cold day signs which seemed to baffle our weatherman upstairs!

Rushabh Pattni for his help with the 'forest' and stock control.

The assistants - Fukunda Mbaru, Tanvi Patel, Samantha McKenzie, Martina Bernardi, Garvit Shah, Regeru Njoroge, Joseph Thomas, Vivian Rutibingwa, Julissa Kiyenje. - for their help in selling and setting up various things before and during the week.

Asim Shah (Head of the Hillcrest Environment Club - 2001)
