Chapter 11- Falling in love with the enemy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Good night!” I cried as Hiei did one of disappearing acts again. I wonder if he heard me. I shrugged as I close the door. Kuwabara had already gone home since he wasn’t feeling so good after all that ice cream he ate and Hiei didn’t like the idea of sleeping in a bed, he liked it better in a tree somewhere. Since Yusuke’s room had a big hole in it thanks to me, we decided to sleep in the living room instead. “Botan?” he cried. “Yes?” I asked as I continued to lay down my futon. “What if--”Yusuke started. I knew were he was leading to and I didn’t like it one bit. Womp! I threw a pillow in his face. “Quit it!” I shouted playfully. “Oh yeah! You quit it!” He answered back as he threw the pillow back at me. I shrieked a war cry and began throwing pillows at him at top speed. A pillow fight ensued. By the time that we had stopped, we had run out of pillows and several feathers were scattered all over the floor. We were both breathing heavily. I smirked at him a nd began to laugh hysterically. Pretty soon we both collapsed on the floor in a fit of giggles. “Okay! Okay! Truce.” he said in between guffaws. “Truce!” I shook his hand in a manner of a brick businessman. We burst out another bout of helpless laughter.

Once we had settled down, he placed his futon next to mine. As he lay down, he said “Good night, Botan.” “Good night, Yusuke.” I answered him meekly as I drifted off to sleep. Yusuke stared into space for a few minutes and then he too floated into slumber.

“Finally he dozed off! I thought that moron would never go to sleep.” Kiyo mumbled. He carefully approached her. “Botan, how lovely you are amidst the full moon.” he gently whispered as he softly caressed her cheek. He felt a pang in his chest. Longing began to throb in his bosom. His heart. He never even knew he had one. He felt surprised at feeling something other than hate and anger. What is this? Am I sick? Why do my hands wish to hold her and caress her face ever so gently? Why do I long to protect her with every fiber of my being? Why do I feel so alive when I am around her? F*** me, I’m going insane! It must be the effect of this horrid realm. Yes, that must be it. But still he couldn’t resist the urge to lean closer and feel her lips against his.

Huh! Yusuke sat up suddenly, startled awake by something. He turned to quickly check on Botan. He gasped as he saw a figure hovering over her, holding her, kissing her!!! “What the f*** do you think you’re doing!” he roared as blue aura began to fill the room. The figure turned and vanished. Into thin air, without a single trace. Yusuke blinked. Was he just imagining things or did he actually see someone kissing Botan? People don’t just vanish into thin air, not even Hiei who was faster than lightning can’t possibly disappear at that speed. But still imagination or not, he thought as he laid beside Botan on her futon, I’m going to make sure no one ever kisses her like that! It took a few minutes but he finally went back to sleep.

Kiyo watched angrily from a tree as Yusuke positioned himself on Botan’s futon. Jealousy gripped his heart. He wanted nothing more than to go back inside and kill that no good ningen but he restrained himself. Now was not the time. You will be mine, my princess. You will be mine. With that he teleported himself back to their lair.

Yusuke opened his eyes as sunlight poured unto the room. He looked down and saw that for the second time he was holding Botan in his arms again. This was beginning to be a weird habit. He smiled at her. She felt so warm and smelled so good like morning dew drops. She stirred. He quickly but gently released her and scampered over to his own futon. He wouldn’t want her to know that he had held her all through out the night just because he thought he saw something. He heard her yawn and get up. He closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep. He felt her crouch down next to him. “Wake up, sleepy head!” I cried playfully at Yusuke as I began tickling him. “Hey! What’s the big idea!” I hear him shout as I mercilessly attacked his weak point, his sides. “ Stop it! Please! Stop! Botan!” I hear him plead. “Okay! I said cheerfully as I stopped. Your awake anyhow that’s --- he didn’t give me a chance to finish. He began to tickle me feverishly. “Sweet revenge!” I heard him c ry. “Stop Yusuke! Stop!” I pleaded as I laughed hysterically, trying to tickle him also. We began to wrestle on the floor, each one trying to tickle the other. We were so engrossed in our tickling match that we didn’t even notice that Kurama and Hiei were already in the room. “Ahem!” Kurama coughed exaggeratedly. “Kurama!” I gasped. “Hiei!” he wheezed. “Good morning.” Kurama greeted us with a mischievous smile. “I see you’re both hard at work on our case.” Kurama teased. I threw a pillow at him. “I’m going to cook breakfast but Kurama since you’re on a diet and all I guess you won’t be having any!” I said as I headed towards the kitchen. “Aaw! Botan! I was just teasing!” Kurama wailed as he followed me.

Yusuke began to put away the futons while Hiei just stood there. “Hiei…” he started reluctantly. Yusuke wanted to talk to Kurama about last night but since he was busy following his breakfast. “What?” Hiei asked. “Last night, he began, I awoke and I thought I saw someone hunched over Botan but in just a blink he was gone. Do you think he was just a fragment of my imagination or is he for real?” He felt unsure about asking Hiei about all of this since Kurama was the one he usually turned to when something baffled him. “Kiyo.” Hiei muttered. “What? Who?” Yusuke asked in surprise. “You are right, Yusuke, there is someone who can do that. His name is Kiyo and he’s a member of the group we’re after! Don’t you listen to Koenma at all?” Hiei asked exasperatedly. Yusuke smiled sheepishly. “Guess I didn’t hear that part.” he said. “Guys! Breakfast’s ready!” they heard Botan call.
