SPO in its second pace

back

As a response to the order of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), the Holy Infant College Student Publications' Office established separate school publications for the elementary, high school, and college levels.

These two new publications were organized only this year. For the elementary department, Ms. Emma Margallo, an English teacher, is the adviser of the BLINKERS. Mr. Reynaldo Garnace is still the adviser of the High School's ECHOES while Mrs. Aida Marie Destreza, an AB Mass Communication graduate, is the adviser of the college's TARGET.

Before these publications were organized, ,many tasks were done first. One is the review and ratification of the SPO Constitution and By-laws. Second is the orientation of the applicants, which was followed by a two-day Basic Campus Journalism Training.

As a result of the said seminar, the Editorial Board and Staff of every publication were organized. Humbert Doloroso, was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the TARGET while Frederico Pagatpat was chosen as Associate Editor. For the BLINKERS, Janice Ladan and Danielle Poras got the two highest positions. As for the ECHOES, the Junior Staff were already assigned to their respective positions.

Mr. Garnace, Head-SPO, expressed the purpose of having these school publications.

"Publications can develop hidden potentials of students. It also propagates freedom, as the law provides, making the students aware of the school, local, regional, national and international issues. Moreover, the publication also makes a name for the school," he said.

Mrs. Destreza also stressed that, "The strength of the publication depends on the performance, leadership and commitment of the staff because the future of the paper lies in their hands."

"The publication will flourish, provided that the adviser will work hand in hand with the staff." Mr. Garnace added.
