July 15, 1982

Dearest Mama,

Hello!  How are you?  Hope youre feeling fine.  How about your illness?  I hope you have already been successfully operated the moment you receive this letter.  About us?  Were just okay here.  You have nothing to worry about.

We have just received the money yesterday.  Ely Santos phoned Auntie Charito yesterday morning.  Auntie Charito got the money from her here at United Nations Avenue.  Auntie gave us P370.00.

About my schooling, its just okay.  I didnt have a hard time adjusting to my new environment.  And about my studies, its just fine.  You know, I find it easy and not as hard as I expected.  Most of the time, I get the grade of 1, the highest mark, whenever we have quizzes.  Of course, I feel proud deep inside myself.  And most of my teachers had already known me since the start of classes.  Because they were asking then who were the scholars in our class.  There are four of us.  And although we were embarrassed, we raised our hands to let them recognize us.

Our preliminary examinations will be next week.  I hope that the tests will not be hard.

Last Monday, July 12 (Christys birthday), we had a contest at CEU.  It was participated by the different colleges, all Freshmen (first year students), two representatives from each college.  I was one of the participants.  The contest was about How Well Do You Know CEU?  We researched for the history of CEU.  The contest was held in connection with the celebration of their Diamond Jubilee or their 75th year.  Unfortunately, we didnt win.  Anyway it was a good try.  There were 14 teams that were from 14 colleges, including high school.  They were to get six teams to qualify for the second elimination round. Unluckily, we were ranked number 7.  Its just okay.  Anyway, we tried our best.

Also last Tuesday, July 13, we had the culminating part of our orientation for the College of Commerce.  The program was participated mostly by the Freshmen students.  I delivered a speech, together with my other classmate who was also a University Memorial scholar.  My speech was an appreciation speech in response to the Welcome Address of our big sisters in the University.  I felt nervous that time because the Dean and Vice Dean of the College of Commerce were there together with the other faculty members.  Anyway, my speech went well.

About my schedule, its not that hectic.  I go to school for half day only .  Every Monday, my schedule is in the morning, from 7:00 1:00.  And from Tuesday to Friday, from 1:00 5:30 and 2:30 7:00.  I take my lunch at home.  About Lyn, she stays at school for the whole day.  She just brings her baon and eats lunch there.  Our allowance is budgeted well.  You need not worry about those things.

About the typewriter, if you still dont have enough money, we can buy it later na lang.  Anyway we dont need it badly naman eh.  You just send us the money when you dont have a lot of expenses.

Meanwhile, you just take time for relaxing and taking good care of yourself as we are doing here.  Ill tell you more stories next time.  Take care.

Love lots,

Irene
