Dearest Dolly,

Hi!  Kumusta ka na.  Hope youre always doing fine.  We are all okay here.  As usual, I am busy with school activities.  We just finished our third periodical tests last week.  Like before, the fourth year students were scheduled to take the tests at night.  But it was later this time.  They extended the duration of the tests.  That would have been fine since we would not be so much under time pressure.  But thanks, no thanks! to Meralco, there was a brown-out on the first day of the tests.  That brown-out was not okay with me.  We were writing our second test then.  At first, we tried to bear with the candles.  But it took so long for the power to get back on that the teachers agreed to postpone the tests.  Some of the students gleefully rejoiced for the test in Social Studies was tough.  Since the tests were postponed, it gave them more time to read up.  They looked up the answers to the test questions.  Some even took the test questions home.  I really resented that.  It was unfair to those students who already took that test.  I saw the papers that were handed in on the first day.  They were almost empty of answers.  But the papers that were handed in on the second day were filled with answers.  Its good that my test results were okay, especially in Social Studies.  Although my grade in Social Studies were a little lower than before, (almost all of us had lower grades) I still had a higher grade than my classmates.  In most of our other subjects, I had the highest marks.  So thats just fine.  My resentment is slowly fading away.

Our graduation is on March 29.  I already bought the material and I will ask Tita Linda to sew my dress.  We were given a style to copy but I dont like it.  Its so ugly.  Ill ask Tita Linda to make a blouse and a skirt so that Ill have more use of them.  Michelle is also graduating from Grade Six.  I just dont know which one of us will graduate first.  Our graduation will be held at San Sebastian.  Thats where they hold it every year.  I think there will also be a graduation ball.  I just dont know yet where.

We have received and already exchanged the money that you sent us.  The dollar exchange rate is now P8.20.  So that was a total of P410.00.  Auntie Charito has sent the parcel for Lita.  We also gave her the P100.00.  By the way, Auntie Charito said that can you please tell Benny not to come here anymore because Uncle Gene gets mad.  I am confused.  Because, you see, when Bennys here, they are very nice to him.

We sang on the tape that you sent us, but we taped over with our voices later on because our song didnt turn out good.  We didnt tape over the entire song because we didnt have enough time to do it.  We were going to ask Lolo to also record something for you.  I dont know if he did.  We were at school when they took that tape.  We also forgot to leave our letters for you.  We brought them to school with us that day.  We will just mail them to you.

I crocheted the socks during Christmas vacation.  We were not able to send it to you earlier.  I was going to make you a pair of gloves, (didnt you want some gloves?) but we already have school and didnt have time to do it.  We sent you a picture of a girl performing the Hawaiian dance.  She was a first year high school student.  We dont know her.  She was so cute that we just had to take her picture.

I havent looked around for a typewriter yet, maybe next week Ill go out.  I don't think that it will cost that much.

Sige ma, til here.  It will be Valentines Day soon.  Do you have a Valentines Party there?  Happy Valentines Day to you!

With much love and care,
Irene

P.S.
Ma, regarding our surnames, please think about it carefully.  I think it will be too much of a trouble.  We have to change everything from our birth certificates up to our school records.  Isnt there any other way aside from that?
