Hello Dolly,

Hi!  How are you?  Hope youre doing fine and everythings going smooth.  We are all fine here.  We are always busy at school.  We are at school almost every day, even Sundays.

Last week, there was an athletic meet in the Division of Manila.  We had no classes for three days.    But we actually had five days off if you include Saturday and Sunday.  In those five days, I havent stayed home.  For three days, I was reviewing with my teacher for contests in Math IV and Trigonometry.  The contests were held on Tuesday, February 16.  Lina was a contestant in Geometry, as well.  We didnt bring home any prizes for our school.  But thats okay.  Then on Saturday we practiced our dance.  We are studying dancing in P.E. and we have to perform this Monday.

Sunday, February 14, was Valentines Day.  My classmates and I went to PLM (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila) on that day and took the entrance test.  The school was near Planetarium, which is close to Luneta.  After the test, we went to the movies.  I went with them since it was Valentines Day.  We are three pairs (six in all), all girls.

Graduation Day is fast approaching, March 29, to be held at San Sebastian, I think.  The teachers are very busy preparing our grades.  They are starting to rank the honor roll, although we still have one periodic test to take.  The report cards werent handed out anymore.  I might get a place in the honor roll.  I have a good chance.  Most of my competition have grades in line of 7.  An honor roll candidate shouldnt have any grades in line of 7, even a grade of 79, in the third and fourth years of high school.  Even if I dont get the top, I think I will somehow get a place.  I am not aspiring to be the valedictorian nor the salutatorian.  What will I do with either if I dont really deserve it?  Anyway, I have already garnered different honors.  Our graduation fee is P60.00.  I havent paid yet.  I am worried that we might get short of money.  Also, my classmates and I have agreed to withhold payments until we get the NCEE results.  I think we will get them soon.  Some schools already got their results, like our neighbor, Roxas H.S.

My graduation dress isnt made yet, but I already have the material.  That can wait.  We still have over a month before graduation.  I will buy my graduation shoes when Lina buys the material for her J.S. dress.  We dont know yet if we will have a J.S.  Well just worry about that later.

Until now, I am still undecided what college to go to.  I have my eye on PLM because of the low tuition fees and high academic standard but Uncle Gene thinks that the environment there is not good and the bus stop is far from the school.  The other schools have good environment but have high tuition fees.  I dont think I like U.P. anymore.  Aside from being far, the tuition fee is costly.  I took the entrance test there only because of the scholarship grant.  But I cant apply for scholarship because I need a parents income tax return.  NSDB also offered me a scholarship grant for Philippine Womens University.  I didnt go on the examination day because they were also asking for an income tax return.  I may also try Polytechnic University of the Philippines.  My classmates have already taken the entrance test there.  I will take the second batch. They have lower tuition fees and its just here in Sta. Mesa.

If I do get a high rank in the honor roll, I dont have to worry about looking for a school with lower tuition fees.  I think college schools give discounts to honor students.

I will probably take Commerce major in Accounting.  But Im still having second thoughts.  My math teachers are coaxing me to take another course.  They think that I will find Commerce very easy.  They are persuading me to take B.S. Math or B.S. Statistics.  While Mrs. Santiago, our Math head teacher, said that I should take Industrial Engineering.  I am taking all of these in consideration because I am into numbers and figures.  If I take B.S. Math Most B.S. Math graduates end up teaching.  I dont want to teach. If I take Engineering It takes 5 years and most companies dont hire female engineers.  Besides, its an expensive course.  So Ive narrowed it down to Commerce, B.S. Math or B.S. Statistics.

Yesterday, February 19, was Miss Borromeos birthday.  We sent her a Valentine-Birthday card.  Its good that it fell on a Friday, the same day as our YMC meeting.  My classmates and I put some money together, bought her a gift and gave it to her during the celebration in our YMC meeting.  Today is the anniversary of the Popes visit.  The YMCians attended the rosary rally at the Araneta Coliseum this morning.  But I didnt go with them.

Sige ha. Regards to everybody there.

Love lots,
Irene
