Hello Dolly,

Hi!  Kumusta ka na?  Hope youre okay there.  We had no classes yesterday and today.  There was a storm.  It was Signal Number 3 yesterday, but there are no more rains today.  The sun is slowly peeking in.  I am quite happy because I got a break from school work.  I am very busy at school this year.  I have been excused a lot from my classes because of different activities.  Thats why I missed quite a few lessons.  Its a bit hard for me because I have to catch up with notes and lectures.  My classmates are very kind, though, to lend me their notes.  I can easily catch up naman.

Last Monday, I had a contest in Chemistry, which was held at PNC (Philippine Normal College).  Miss Borromeo signed me up and my classmate, Manny Bonife, instead of her Third Year students.  The contestants could either be Third Year or Fourth Year students.  She said that shes been having a hard time teaching the Third Years now.  At least, Manny and I are already experienced competing in Chemistry and we would have better chances of winning because were in Fourth Year.  Thank goodness, we were chosen to go through the Second Elimination Round.  The First Elimination was on Monday.  25 schools competed, 2 contestants in each school, so there were 50 students in all.  Only half went through to the Second Elimination.  We were really glad that we both went through.  I dont think that Maam knows yet that we passed the First Elimination.  She went home early on Monday because her mother has to undergo surgery.  Im sure that she will be happy to learn that we earned victory for her to compensate for the problems she has at home. The Second Elimination was supposed to be held today, but classes were canceled.  It must have been postponed.  I am really hoping that we could make it to the Final Round.  Out of the 25 schools, only three winners will be declared and will be awarded trophies.  I am just excited because I passed the First Elimination.  Last year, I was eliminated right away.  I am really challenged this time.

We received the pants, skirt, and money.  Weve already exchanged the money.  The dollar exchange is now P8.15.  We havent got the chance to go to the bank yet to put some in our savings account.   Ill probably go tomorrow.  You have nothing to worry about.  We won't run out of money.  I know how to handle it.

Auntie Charito and Melissa went to Lilys place in Angono today.  Our foundation day (field demonstration) is just around the corner.  Sayang nga eh.  I wont be participating this year.  We were gonna dance the binasuhan.  Our YDT teacher said there should only be a few performers in this dance.  Shes teaching 6 sections, so she decided to pick only 5 students from each section.  There will be 30 performers for this dance.  She said that its not that easy to dance the binasuhan.  The dancers need a lot of space for movement so that they wont bump into each others arms.  And its safer just in case a performer drops the glass from her head.  Our teacher picked the dancers on Monday.  I was not in class that day because I was in the Chemistry contest.  If I were there, I dont think that I would get picked anyway.  I was having a hard time to balance the canned milk (thats what we used for practice) on top of my head.  But thats alright, at least I dont have to spend anything for costume.  Lina will be dancing on foundation day.  On the morning of our field day, December 7, is our passing review in CAT.  All the cadettes in our school (were one battalion) will be marching.  Its like an exhibition to our guests.  Hayaan mo, Ill send you a picture of me in fatigue uniform.

Last Sunday, we went to Luneta.  All of us here at home went, including Ate Margie.  We were there until noon.  Then in the afternoon, Lina and I went to the movies.  I also bought new sandals.  My old one was already worn out.  Lina will buy a new pair next time we go out, probably before Christmas.  Ate Diana will be coming home soon, either on December 10 or 11.

O sige ha, Lina will mail this letter now.  Auntie Charito wants her to mail something, too.  Rush.   Were sorry that we are not able to write you that often.  Hayaan mo, next time I will have lots of stories for you, after our field day and passing review.  Bye.  We love you.

         Love and care,
         Irene
