| August 16, 1981 Hello Dolly, Hi! Kumusta ka na? Hope youre doing fine. Its been a long time since we last communicated. I missed you so much. Thats why I have lots of stories for you. We have been very busy at school. We now have all our subjects everyday. Each are 40 minutes long, instead of one hour. We have loads of assignments everyday. July was Nutrition Month and on July 23, I was one of eight contestants at Mariano Marcos Memorial High School. Three of us entered the nutri-quiz, the others were in slogan-, poster-, and essay-writing. Unfortunately, I didnt win, but three of my classmates did. I joined the Math Club and was elected President. The elected officers had a leadership training seminar at Jose Abad Santos H.S. last August 8-9. There were four delegates from our school. We spent the night there. It was like camping. It was a lot of fun. And I met lots of students from other schools. I was also elected officer in my homeroom class, but only Business Manager. But thats okay, at least I dont have a lot of responsibilities. In H.E. class, although I was elected Vice President, I am often appointed leader in our group projects. Its quite hard because I have extra work to do aside from my assignments. I also joined the Science Club and was elected Vice President. Aside from that, I am Organization and Education Chairman in Kabataang Barangay. Initially, I was elected Secretary, but I objected. Our adviser reminded me that the KB has lots of activities and if I were to be a Secretary, I cant be an active officer in any other clubs, so they accepted my objection. They assigned me in Education and Organization, instead. Every Saturday, we have review classes for NCEE (National College Entrance Examinations), which is earlier this year. It will be held in October. In previous years, NCEE was held in November. So now, I only have Sundays free. Michelle and Margo also have classes on Saturdays. I think all private schools here in Manila have classes on Saturdays because the opening of classes has been delayed. Ive talked to Miss Borromeo and she said that she has received your letter. She just hasnt replied because she is very busy. Shes also working part-time in another school. She doesnt go home to Tondo anymore. Shes staying at a boarding house here in Pandacan. She is Linas Chemistry teacher now. Lyn has also joined the YMC. We have block rosary every Fridays. Our group is bigger now than it was last year. Ate Diana has left for Japan last week. Only Auntie Charito went to the airport because we all had classes that day. O sige ha, til next time. Its already late. I still have to get up early tomorrow. Bye. I love you. Take care. Love much, Irene |
