Dear Dolly,

Hi and hello to you!  How are you my dear?  Hope everythings okay.  Sorry about what happened ha?  I promise you, nothing like that will happen again.

You know what, these past few days, I really felt so helpless.  That was because of all the troubles that happened here.  I was so confused then.  I really, really wanted to leave this place. It was so hard to get along with everybody.  But then I realized, where would we live?  We couldnt go back to Cavite to live with Papa because I knew that you would get mad and that would affect your situation there.  I also knew that we couldnt live with Papas relatives because you wouldnt like that either.  We couldnt live with any of your other relatives.  It would also be hard to live in a boarding house.  Lyn and I are still young and were both girls.  Its not safe for us to live by ourselves.  Besides a boarding house would cost you more.  I was really confused that time.  I told myself, I needed somebody to talk to, somebody who could give me advise on what to do.  I didnt know what was right or what was wrong, what was good or what was bad, whether to go left or right.  I have gone through many family problems that really affected me as the eldest daughter, but none of those compare to these.  I didnt have any parent to run to.   The second parents that I have are the ones that I couldnt get along with.  I was really confused and lost.  I prayed to Him, God, please help me.  I asked Him to show me the right way.  I have thought so many times of asking help from my teachers and classmates.  But then, I didnt want them to learn of my troubles at home.  He answered my prayers, though.  Uncle Virgilio asked Lina and me to come over to Novaliches. He talked to us.  He understood how we felt.  He didn't take sides.  He also explained to us what its like to be apart from your family.  We now understand your situation there.  Thats why I am really sorry for what happened and everything that I said in my other letter.  I promise you that it wont happen again.  I now know where we went wrong and well try our best to change it.  We will try to get along with everybody here.

I am very busy with our school activities.  Last January, I competed in 2 Division Contests, one in Geometry, and then on the next day, in Statistics.  Then last Thursday, February 26, I competed in another one, Reading Proficiency.  I havent won any of the Division Contests.  That was the last of the contests.  So to sum it up, I have competed in six Division Contests this 3rd year H.S.  But I wont give up.  Maybe in 4th year, Ill win in one of these contests.   Anyway, even though I didnt win, I was given certificates for being a contestant.

On February 14, Valentines Day, we had a party at school.  We paid P5.00 for the tickets.  The price was worth it though.  Although we didnt have a lot of refreshments, my classmates and I had fun at the party.  By the way, how do you celebrate Valentines Day there?

You know what, Pope John Paul II was here on February 17-22.  We had no classes for one week.  Our school YMC (Youth Marian Crusade) went to UST (University of Santo Tomas).  The Pope had a mass there.  I wanted to go, but I didnt. The YMCians had to stay there overnight.  Then on February 24, there were no classes again.  Post tests were held for all 4th year students of all public schools here in Manila.  Third Year post tests are also just around the corner, on March 5 and 6.  We are now very busy reviewing for the post tests.  Aside from the post tests, we will have the final examinations in our school on March 12 and 13.  Post tests are taken by all public school students, they are taken simultaneously by all schools in Metro Manila.  The final examinations are just for our own school.  So were actually taking two sets of examinations, one week after the other.  But dont worry.  Kayang-kaya ko yon.  (Yabang no?)

By the way, its your birthday on Thursday.  I hope that youll enjoy your birthday.  Pasensiya ka na.  We dont even have any present for you.  The best thing that we can give you is our warmest greetings.  HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE MOST WONDERFUL MOTHER IN THE WORLD.  MAY YOU HAVE THE HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY YOU CAN EVER HAVE!!!

From,
Irene
