Verb 1 + preposition + verb 2 in the infinitive
This is a common verb phrase: verb 1 requires prepositions de or a when followed by another verb:

| haver de | Hão de vencer a corrida. | They will win the race. |
| lembrar-se de | Lembre-se de trancar a porta. | Remember to lock the door. |
| Examples of transitive verbs that exceptionally require Portuguese preposition a when followed by verbs: | ||

| começar a | Ela começou a chorar. | She started to cry. |
