First of all, you need to remember that:
1. The subjunctive mood is composed of the following verb tenses:

| presente do subjuntivo | present subjunctive |
| imperfeito do subjuntivo | imperfect subjunctive |
| perfeito do subjuntivo | perfect subjunctive |
| mais-que-perfeito do subjuntivo | pluperfect subjunctive |
| futuro do subjuntivo | future subjunctive |
| futuro composto do subjuntivo | future perfect subjunctive |
2. There are four types of subordinating clauses:
| orações subordinadas substantivas | noun clauses |
| orações subordinadas adjetivas | adjective clauses |
| orações subordinadas adverbiais | adverb clauses |
| orações reduzidas | reduced clauses |
The use of the subjunctive mood is mandatory in certain types of subordinating clauses that follow specific verbs in the main clause, or according to the speaker's mood.
