The Miss Philippines

Treasure
Chest

.Miss Philippines 1963
..........Lalaine..... .......Bennett
...She started it all ...

Lalaine Bennett, the fresh doll faced Miss Philippines of 1963 won the hearts of the Filipino
people  when she made them experience  the first  taste of success in an international pa-
geant with her 3rd Runner-up finish at Miss Universe. Lalaine made her mark in the pageant when she delivered her speech in her native tongue instead of in English. Lalaine is now con-
sidered  an icon in the rich pa-geant history of the Philippines.

"This is WHO Miss Philippines really is. The eyes that speak of innocence, the lips that speak of truth, the soft angular features of the face that tell of her rich cultural heritage, and above all, that undefinable, timeless look that I have yet to see again in Miss Philippines of the 21st century. Lalaine summarizes all that I have worked for in this website. She is indeed
Miss Philippines forever."

Chiqui Brosas
Miss Philippines Universe 1975
4th Runner-up at 1975 Miss Universe

Chiqui Brosas was the national favorite in the 1975 Miss  Universe Pageant  in El  Salvador. Humbly called 'Miss Numero Uno' by  the local press, she did  well enough and  ended up as 4th Runner-up.

"Carmen Tuason, for some reason reminds me of an Asian Sophia Loren and Ava Gardner. Another
classic  face that I  have not seen for a very, very long time."

Desiree Verdadero
Miss Philippines Universe 1984
3rd Runner-up at 1984 Miss Universe

Guada still remains one of the most beau-
tiful Filipinas ever to represent the county in the  Miss Universe  Pageant. The year
1974 was not the right year for her to have competed.  Margie Moran  won the crown the preceding  year,  and a back  to back victory would have been remote. To make things  worse, she was competing in Mani-la; the chances of winning on homegrounds was next to impossible!

"Desiree reminds me so much of Katherine De Guzman, Miss Philippines World 2000. Why?  Both these women were  ridiculed for their  dark looks when they won their
respective national titles. Desiree went on to become 3rd Runner-up  at Miss Universe; I hope the same thing hap-
pens to Kathy. Let us not judge a book by it's cover."

PILAR PILAPIL
FROM THE WORLD OF
BEAUTY TO
THE LIGHTS OF
SHOWBUSINESS

Miss Philippines of 1967 Pilar Pilapil is one of the most  prominent former
beauty  queens  to suc-
cessfully make a transi-
tion to the alluring lights of  the local  cinema in-
dustry. She  was very popular during the 70's.

Josephine Estrada, Miss Philippines Universe of 1962,  like Pilar Pilapil, also went on to become a successful movie star.
One of her most memo-
rable  appearances was as the muse of 'Tarzan,' played by 60's hunk Vic Vargas  in the  comedy
movie,  "Tarzan and
Tansan." The  very young Dolphy  played the  part  of 'Tansan.'
