Vietnam in the late 1950s was a traumatic place to live as a result of the Vietnam War. This horrible period of time turned innocent people into wanton fighters, families into paranoid strangers, and, in this situation, a little girl into a victim of the war. The lesson to be learned from these events is that people, regardless of location, are usually just trying to make it through life. We need to overcome discrimination and hate based on where someone happens to reside.
During the Vietnam War, the citizens of both Vietnam, America, and other participating countries suffered
terrible hardships. Their (Vietnams) country had experienced what seemed to be an endless state of warfare, and the Vietnam War
made life particularly difficult. Relentless bombings by both sides disrupted life in the villages. Many Vietnamese families were torn
apart by this civil war, too, with sons (and some daughters) fighting for different armies. Villages were unprotected by troops. Children, like the one at the left, were suffering. Innocent villagers and children were raped, killed, wounded, or
beaten and entire
villages were destroyed.
Its coincidental that we are going through a war at this very moment. Though we will never have to live through what those in Vietnam suffered, maybe people will be able to somewhat relate better to what happened in the Vietnam war, and all other wars. Are the citizens of Pakistan and Afghanistan necessarily bad people? Not necessarily. They happen to live in a different country. From their perspective, were the enemy. Who really has the right to say whom the enemy is, exactly?
