Boyd and Nevin Genealogies states:"Brought to America 1760. Did hisparents bring him? The statement on his tombstone at Middle Spring,Pa. 'Born in New York' is clearly an error. This could readily enoughappear, since he had been an American 65 years, and would look likeone; besides, he may have formerly lived in New York." However, the"Scottish Emigrants to the U.S.A." shows that Daniel was born in NewYork to Daniel Nevin and Margaret Eagles in 1744.
Mrs. Irons, born 1842, said in 1909 that her father, George Nevin,1807-1886, son of John, 1776-1845, grandson of John, 1740-1814, toldher he went to hear Jenny Lind sing in Pittsburgh (1801 or 2) andtraveled on the first train that ever ran on the Fort Wayne R.R. toAllegheny, where he met T. H. Nevin, 1815-1884m the White Leadmanufacturer, and they compared antecedents. George showed that hisgrandfather came from County Autrim, Ireland, and T. H. said his neverlived in Ireland, but came directly from Scotland to America. Ofcourse, we know he could only have meant Daniel.
