Just read the piece by Tony Baca about editing his HDR tracks in Cool Edit. Tony, there may be a way to get the tracks back in. Unfortuneately not the ones you have already edited. You used Cool Edit- a "destructive" audio editor, so when you were done you could not put the audio back AT THE CORRECT SYNC/TIME for the HDR to accept new track data. If you use a non-destructive audio editor, you should be able to "undo" the movement of audio from a stereo stream to 8 tracks. For Example, Innovative Quality Software's SAW...I may seem a bit like a virgin talking about sex, as I have not tried this myself. I would be interested to hear if you get it to work though...It would a great idea for a customised software version that could do these edits automatically...Peace-out, D

That Jose person, read his resume closely. Tracoman, Hollywood Fl, Japan as Darth Vader would say, he might be of some use to us. With all of that trainning and exp. maybe Jose might know these HDRs inside out.

Greetings all! Ive come up with a method to convert regular eide hard drives to removable. With hard drive capacities growing, and prices falling, this could be the cheapest storage option yet! Stay tuned for further developments, while I iron out the details......

Is anyone using large hard drives with their HDR?I want to know what brands and sizes of hard drive are being used. Also, does anyone know if there is a limited number of SONG areas? Like if you put in a giant hard drive, would you still be limited to the 27 songs or whatever, and if so, is there a fix??

Finally a place to get some answers. I have tried to put 2 identical segate 2.2 gig drives into 3 different V8s (one configured as master and the other as slave) and have never got the drives to spin up (one at a time and they work fine). Anyone with a similar experience? It probably dosen't matter it sounds like the ORB drives are the way to go. Another question I have is about using hard drives larger than ~2.2 gig in a V8. Dean once told me that larger drives could be used but when you try to edit (cut, copy, move etc.) I would have problems. Is anyone using large drives and doing lots of editing and are you having any problems? Thanks for any help............ Carl

Well, I finally got 2 orbs for my v8s. I put one in and it seemed to work. I created a song area, set "A' at the beginning and "B" at the end ( about 50 minutes). Then I deleted the A/B. Next I went to reduce the playlist. It started at "pl 16" and worked normally for a while. Then it was sort of hanging up for short periods of time, then working normally. It hung up at "pl 12". It was frozen. I turned it off. I turned it on and now the V8 is totally dead. The orb comes on, but nothing works on the V8. What the @*#???? The orb killed my V8!

Well,I dont know what that was all about. I looked at the fuse, and it was ok. I waited a while and then the V8 started up like nothing happened.Scared the hell out of me. Now Ive got it reducing the playlist again, and it seems to be working . I hope this orb thibg works out, it looks cool....

Scott: Thanks for the update. Hope you get the ORB thing worked out. My first ORB should be in on Wednesday and my V8 is driveless with the top off in anticipation. I don't like the kind of surprises you described so please keep us posted on the process. What is the largest hard drive you have ever installed in your V8 and did you have any problems with the large drive when you tried to edit tracks? Dean told me that drives larger than ~2.1 Gig would not work.

Hooray! Well, I was up all night till 9am screwing around with the orbs. I installed both, and got one to work pretty well( except for some unknown reason, it wouldnt record on tracks 3 and 5 of song 1, kept giving a reduce message, even after I reduced (the playlist), but seemed to work fine on all tracks of 2 more songs). However, I went to bed very bummed because I could not get the other V8/orb to work. Im happy to say that tonight I looked it over and I came to the conclusion that it would be easiest and cheapest to try a new ribbon cable. But first, I took off the old one, and put it back on, and I'll be damned but now it works great (so far...;>0). I had a ribbon cable problem with one of my hdr6s in the past, and they are very fragile. Also Ive had other problems with loose connections in the past, so if youre having problems with a hdr, it very well could be a loose connection. Ive found these machines to be a little on the fragile side, especially when youre opening them up and installing new hard drives. Well, the orbs seem very cool, now that Ive got them working. Im still working on a project to mount regular eide hard drives in removable racks, 3 to a one space rack mount. Soon Ill be getting some big-ass hard drives and seeing if I can make it work. I just think more gigabytes would be cool...

Well, heres another v8/orb story. It's similar to scott's. I got my orb and three disks yestarday. Installed the orb as a master drive and fired it up I too had problems recording on some track but only on song 1 (tracks 1&3&4 i think). OK, I can live with this but I have observed another problem i would like some feedback on. I created song #2 for 40 minutes, A&B it and erased it and then reduced it all. I armed all 8 tracks to record and fed the v8 a CD on tracks 1&2 for the right and left channel (recording silence on tracks 3-8 to make the ORB work a little). Try #1, the V8locked up after 17 minutes, try #2 gave 15 minutes befort lockup, try 3 gave about 13 minutes before the crash. I tried the process again this morning using a different disk and with a fan blowing on the orb. This 4th try made it all the way to the end of the song (30 minutes this time) but when i listened to the song on tracks 1&2 the song fell apart aaround 19 minutes (fell apart = right & left channel intermittent, digital clicks & pops & track 2 seemed to be about 4 seconds behind track 1). I ran out of time so this is all i know at this time. Has anyone seen this problem? Oh yeah, does everyone els using an orb have to restart the HDR after you change disks? Thanks in advance for any help/thoughts.................Thanks

Hey Carl, email me with how you hooked up the ORB. I am working on getting a V8 and I will tackle all of these hang ups
